Protea Weddings and Events

Protea Wedding and events is a barnyard wedding venue situated in Ocala, FL. Owners Joe and Courtney were inspired to establish their own venue after attending a South African barn wedding. Built upon their working horse farm, this stunning location centers around a historic ‘Swing-Beam’ barn that originally dates back to 1850. This unique structure, along with the beautiful natural surroundings, provides couples with an unforgettable place to celebrate their once-in-a-lifetime occasion.

Facilities and Capacity

Spread across 40 acres of rolling hills, this beautiful premises can comfortably accommodate celebrations of up to 200 guests. It offers an array of ceremony and reception spaces for couples to choose from, each of which has been beautifully designed for comfort and convenience. The main reception hall is lined with wooden farm tables and features 32-foot floor-to-ceiling windows for celebrations full of natural light. Get-ready rooms are also provided for couples and their parties to prepare for their big day in peace and privacy.

Services Offered

As a married couple, Joe and Courtney know how much time and effort goes into making a wedding run smoothly. This is why they work with every client to make their celebration as comfortable and stress-free as possible. Their services include setup and cleanup, furniture, lighting, decoration and more, each of which can be customized to fit the needs of each couple. A list of preferred vendors is available including a selection of the finest local caterers, bars, florists, photographers, DJs, rental specialists, and more. External vendors are also permitted, providing they receive Joe and Courtney’s approval.

History

Swing-beam barns are exceedingly rare, and Protea is delighted to one the only one in the state of Florida. These distinct structures were originally designed to provide farmers with a clear span in the center for ox and horses to thresh out the grain. This particular structure was originally constructed in Canada in the mid 19th century and features its original hand-hewn structure. It was transferred by truck to Joe and Courtney’s ranch and painstakingly rebuilt with the purpose of hosting beautiful Floridian weddings.
