About

Founded in 1926, the company has become the premier dry cleaning service in the area, serving high-end clients such as Chanel, Versace, and Saks Fifth Avenue. Their dedication to their craft has earned them accolades such as the America’s Best Cleaners Award as well as being named ‘Best Washington Metro Drycleaner’. This business currently has 30 staff members who have attained over 250 years of experience.

Parkway Custom Drycleaning is a dry cleaning and alterations establishment that caters to wedding garments, based in N. Bethesda, MD. Specializing in wedding gowns, this dedicated team offers cleaning, alterations, repairs and preservation services. This eco-friendly business provides complimentary pickup and delivery of items to clients based in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC.

Parkway Custom Drycleaning take pride in providing each gown with the care and attention that it deserves. The eco-friendly, non-toxic, and biodegradable solution used has been created to be gentle on embellishments such as beading and lace. They are as thorough as they are prudent, and each garment is checked to identify the fabric and features such as pleats, and whether the item is stained. The item is then hand-cleaned and ironed. After cleaning, the team can also offer preservation services, whereby the dress is stored in acid-free tissue in a pH-neutral box.

In addition to dry-cleaning, this team has the ability to restore delicate vintage pieces that have been handed down through the generations. Their seamstresses can offer alterations and restyling services, adjusting a garment so that it fits perfectly, or adding embellishments to match the engaged couple's vision. This company’s exceptional standards are equally implemented in such services, with the majority of alterations being completed by hand. Wedding couture fittings are available by appointment only, ensuring that the seamstresses are ready to completely focus on the client's needs. This dry cleaner also caters to suits and tuxedos, providing the same care and dedication as they do with gowns and couture garments.

Parkway did a fabulous job altering my gown before the wedding and I used them for the cleaning too. I was nervous about whether they could get the wine stains out but they worked their magic and it looks great. They are real pros and I highly recommend them.

I love my dress! It was very expensive and during the party I got some wine on the dress along with the hem being filthy. Parkway did a fantastic job cleaning it. They are expensive but you get what you pay for! Thanks Parkway!

If you are super nervous about handing over your beautiful and expensive dress for alterations, Parkway is the way to go. They are relatively affordable ($50-$150 for wedding dress alterations, $50-$100 for suits) and do an AMAZING job. The worst feeling is when your dress is too tight, but you couldn't even see the seaming from when Parkway let out the fabric of my dress. Everything came back perfectly, quickly, and they were appropriately professional.

had a very disappointing experience

I had a very disappointing experience with Parkway Dry Cleaning.
I entrusted them with a designer gown worth $1,600, and it was returned to me with two visible holes and stretched fabric. The damage made the dress unwearable and was especially upsetting given its personal and financial value.
When I contacted the company, their seamstress confirmed the fabric damage — specifically referring to "yarn slippage" — and explained that stitching the holes would only make them more noticeable. She removed some loose fibers, but the holes remain clearly visible and uncorrected.
Although the seamstress mentioned in the email that the yarn slippage is not noticeable and removed loose fibers to hide it, the attached photo clearly shows the damage.
When wearing the dress, the fabric stretches slightly in that area, making the spot look like an actual hole. This was not present before cleaning. I’m very disappointed with the result and the handling of the situation.
In addition to the holes, the fabric was visibly stretched, and the dress no longer fits me. It feels like it has become at least half a size to a full size larger. This change is obvious and was not present when I dropped off the dress. I had inspected it carefully just days before, and I have photos to prove it was in perfect condition.
Despite this, Parkway claimed they followed the care label and suggested the damage could have been caused by a weak area in the fabric or something like a purse strap rubbing against it prior to cleaning. This explanation was completely inappropriate — the holes are located in areas of the dress where neither a purse nor a belt would make contact.
In the end, they offered me a store credit for future cleaning services. However, that does not address the loss of an expensive and personally meaningful gown. A credit is not a meaningful solution when I no longer feel comfortable trusting them with any of my garments.
I’m sharing this to caution others — especially those considering sending valuable or delicate pieces. While the company may claim to follow care labels and procedures, in my experience there was no accountability when something went wrong.
I’ve included photos of the damage (photos I did after they repaired), and below you can find a summary of our communication for full transparency.
