About

The Mills Community House is located in the heart of Benzonia, on U.S.-31 and just up the hill from Crystal Lake and the village of Beulah. The distinctive red brick building was built in 1909 as a dormitory for Benzonia Academy, became the Mills Community House in 1925, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been used as a public venue throughout its history—a gymnasium, dance hall, meeting location, sponsor of educational and cultural programs, and home to the Benzonia Library.

During the 1990s, a full kitchen and new restrooms were added adjacent to the lower level meeting space and the room was refurbished with new lighting and other amenities. The kitchen provides the ideal space from which your caterer can work or allows the most practical bride a "DIY" option.

The most significant addition was an elevator to serve all three floors, allowing the third floor auditorium to reopen in 2008. Exterior stairs, air-conditioning, and new furnishings were added and the stage was rebuilt. Benzie County Players performances, concerts by a wide variety of musicians, the Benzie Area Museum historical lecture series, and other gatherings, including weddings, are again being held in Mills Hall.

Our large front porch provides a picturesque setting for an outdoor ceremony, cocktail hour and photos alike. The lush green lawn allows for outdoor cocktail receptions prior to dinner & dancing in the Mills Hall, atop the three story building.

The Mills Hall can accommodate up to 200 guests with the use of an original stage, working grand piano and other vintage embellishments. Just minutes from nearby lodging and beachfront ceremony locations, Mills Community House is the perfect location for your vintage "up north" wedding.
