Hiring Katie Ryan was the best decision we made in planning our daughter's wedding. From the very first moment I spoke with her on the phone, I knew we were in good hands! My now husband and I live in Boston and were looking for help with planning our May 2025 wedding at Rosecliff in Newport. We knew we needed a "day of" coordinator and asked our venue for recommendations, which is how we initially found Katie Ryan Events.

From our very first conversation, we instantly clicked, sharing a long list of mutual connections, but we also had an honest discussion about our budget concerns. Anyone planning a wedding, especially in Newport, RI, knows how quickly costs can add up. Despite knowing we weren’t sure we could afford the full year planning package, Katie generously spent HOURS on the phone with us, guiding us through the complexities of planning a Newport wedding in just nine months. Katie is Epic. My wife and I interviewed all of the event planners (except 1 that did not respond) on Rosecliff's referral sheet. We found Katie to be the most knowledgeable because of her risk averse approach. No joke, I wanted to enter Rosecliff on a speedboat and Katie just started listing off things that could go wrong.

In the end she threw us an incredible event at Rosecliff, which was truly the night of our lives. Some of our guests gave us positive feedback regarding how she and her vendors stayed out of the way and did not interfere with the festivities. A lot of photographers and videographers interfere, as well as, the planners themselves, but Katie and her team operated incognito in the background ensuring things ran smoothly.

We also enjoyed working with her. She went above and beyond to do everything we asked for including painting a pitchfork gold, custom table cards etc. The timeline of the wedding ran very smoothly and she maintained control throughout the night. She also brought everything to our hotel before the evening ended so we had NOTHING to worry about. As a business owner I struggle to give up control, but I trust Katie and you should to.

A VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: When you hire a wedding planner you are hiring more than them, you are hiring their team and their vendors. Katie got us a genius florist and a fabulous caterer. Our florals were the best ever and the food was fantastic. Usually, florals are not on the level of ours and wedding food generally stinks. The preview from our photographer looks amazing. Our band was also insane! Katie narrows down selections and sends you samples so you need not be overwhelmed. Our wedding planning was actually fun and not stressful.

Thinking back to the whole event, just two issues. One was my fault, the other was minor and Katie took responsibility and corrected it very quickly. People are human and no one is perfect, but Katie is really as close as you are going to get... so you should just use her.

Also, my wife is very softspoken and Katie managed us very well, pulling Brittany's opinion out of her. She also gave us her advice, BUT never imposed or forced us to do anything. I think couples' management is an important part of the job. Not to mention her feedback when we had a rogue bridesmaid.

Lastly is budget, she respected what we wanted to spend and we actually came in below budget and that is not just because of headcount. She actually got our money back from a vendor we no longer needed after we gave them a nonrefundable deposit. Do not hold her to this, but this speaks to her ability.

The idea of planning a private home wedding from 400 miles away was stress-inducing to say the least. Thankfully, we found Katie in our search for a wedding planner. Our reference calls told us Katie had an exception ability to interpret a vision and make it a reality... I couldn't describe it better myself. We worked with Katie for over a year leading up to our wedding day. Katie is extraordinary. At her job, as an advocate, her keen eye, and as an all around person. The amount of passion, love, and work she put in to make our wedding the best night of our lives didn’t and never will go unnoticed. Her professionalism goes above and beyond. She made sure all the vendors ran smoothly together and that it flowed seamlessly. We had a very untraditional like wedding at two different places around the corner from each other and Katie would run from venue to venue to make sure everything was perfect at both places. The entire day ran so smoothly, and if something went out of order, no one knew because Katie took care of it prior to anyone even finding out. In the morning she made sure every detail shot for the photographer was ready and in place. She has the best eye for details. During the reception she would run back and forth to our hotel room and drop off the cards we’d be receiving so nothing would go missing. She had my second dress steamed and ready so I’d easily be able to change, she brought my gown back and packaged it away so perfectly. She had our room spotless and so organized when the night was finished it was like my fairy godmother came and tucked everything away so nicely and neatly.
Leading up to the wedding, Katie gave the best recommendations on vendors. Our invitations and florals were just a few of the vendors that we used from Katie’s recommendations and the amount of texts and questions of “who did those!?” Or “would you mind if we copied?!” You wouldn’t even be able to believe!
Three days before the wedding we had an issue with the make up artist being sick and canceling, within minutes of informing Katie and giving her that information, she was on the phone with me with highly requested and sought after stylists that would be able to come three days before the wedding.
I could write paragraphs and paragraphs going on and on about how amazing Katie is. How pristine her timeline is. How detail oriented she is, how she gave my wedding day her all. Katie now is like family. She is so loved by everyone of my immediate family members and every single person raves about her. If you haven’t booked her after reading this review, book now. Hiring Katie was the best and most important decision we made in our wedding planning process. We got married on July 15, 2023 and we read all of Katie's reviews before reaching out and I can honestly say that all the amazing things written about her hold true. In the 1.5 years of planning our wedding, Katie was attentive to our every phone call, text, and email. No detail was missed, no question was left unanswered, and our vision was executed to perfection. Some might say my mom and I could be a bit overbearing at times during the planning process (lol), but Katie's patience and grace helped us to stay calm and enjoy the process because she had everything under control for us.
It has been over a month and we are still swooning over how perfect everything was!
