While researching outdoor wedding venues around State College, we fell in love with Fern Hill within minutes of arriving for our visit. The wooded grounds are gorgeous and secluded. Sue and Melissa were extremely helpful throughout the process. We held our ceremony in the sculpture garden, cocktail hour inside of the main school building, and then our reception in the pavilion. It also gave us piece of mind knowing that we could move any/all of the events inside in case of inclement weather, an option very few other local venues offered. We also stayed in the cabins on site which were nice and convenient. If you're looking for an outdoorsy wedding experience surrounded by nature, we highly recommend Fern Hill!

Fern Hill was a fairytale. The setting inspired the most beautiful, dreamlike wedding my wife and I could have ever hoped for. Sue and her team worked tirelessly to ensure that our guests (all 275 of them) were well accommodated and cared for. We cannot speak highly enough in regards to their professionalism and character. Similarly, the venue itself was spectacular. All of the buildings, from the charming cabin by the pond to the main cabin and beyond were simply amazing. It goes without saying, we highly recommend this location to anyone that is looking for a wedding set against a gorgeous, woodland backdrop. Two thumbs WAY up!

Our wedding day was made perfect by Fern Hill Weddings! The grounds and gardens were a beautiful backdrop to all of our pictures. Sue and her staff were very accommodating from Friday (on move) in through Sunday (on move out). We had a great experience with Fern Hill Weddings and highly recommend it to everyone!

Fern Hill is located close to State College, (we hired school buses to transport guests the half hour drive), yet it is secluded.
My first impression when I met Sue for a tour was that my daughter had found an enchanted wonderland for her wedding reception. The ferns, trees, flowers and other abundant flora elevated everyone's spirits and were a calm, relaxing force. The sculptures, gazebo, lake, honeymoon cottage, pavllion and art studio were beautiful. Minimal, if any decorations are needed because you are surrounded with the best nature can provide.
A thunderstorm went through the area an hour before the outdoor ceremony. Immediately after the rain stopped, Sue's team was carefully drying off every single chair. There were many, many details like this that made the wedding and reception a much loved success.
The kitchen was well appointed and the caterer told me how much they enjoy working functions at Fern Hill. (When my daughter married in August, 2016 it was called McCann School of Art. I adore the new name, it fits.) Sue and her team have done this dozens and dozens of times, so even though you may be nervous about planning your reception, please accept Sue's suggestions, or at least strongly consider them. Every single bit of guidance Sue provided was spot on.
My words cannot give an accurate portrayal of just how spectacular Fern Hill Weddings is for a perfect wedding and reception venue. You honestly need to experience it for yourself. Plan a visit and tour with Sue. Take in the serenity, warmth, love and overall enchantment. Decide for yourself. All I can say is this mother-of-the-bride couldn't have been more pleased with my only daughter's choice of venue.

Shout out to Sue and the entire Fern Hill team for making our wedding so special and memorable. We braced ourselves for something to go wrong but everything went off as planned. We chose Fern Hill because it perfectly embraced our love for nature and art. It is without a doubt a hidden gem in Central PA. It has that rustic charm but with all the conveniences like a giant pavilion, clean bathrooms, and golf carts.

Our wedding day was overcast and chillier than expected. Thankfully, there was an indoor Plan B set up - just in case we had to move the ceremony inside at the last minute. We were even able to rehearse it the day before! Luckily, the rain held off and we were able to enjoy a beautiful garden ceremony. And heat lamps were placed in the pavilion to warm up the reception. Also, in order to accommodate the indoor ceremony option, the wedding party was allowed to use the cottages - which was a huge bonus that made getting ready easier and more comfortable.

We highly recommend this venue! Sue and the staff at McCann were very professional and a pleasure to work with. Please disregard any negative reviews resulting from a different management. Sue Green is the same Sue that people raved about in the old reviews. She has returned to bring back the magic of this wonderful venue. Our wedding planning actually overlapped with both managements and we were so blessed to end up with Sue. The transition was definitely for the better and we feel very fortunate. Sue is someone who takes initiative, is patient and understanding, organized and attentive to details, always quick to respond, and more than willing to coordinate with the vendors! We have no regrets and our guests keep telling us how much they enjoyed themselves.

Sue and Team at Fern Hill Weddings made our dreams come true! It is such a unique venue with tons of options to fit your style, we only heard rave reviews from all of our guests! We got married on April 14th, 2018, which means it could be snowing or it could be 80 and sunny in State College area - luckily we were on the 80 degrees and sunny side of mother nature! But Sue assured us that even if the weather turned on us, our vision would still happen with the alternate areas. Their team was with us the entire day of our wedding making sure all went smoothly and it really did! Sue has great relationships with the vendors in the area and is very knowledgeable. We appreciate how they worked with us up to, throughout and even the day after the event. We cannot say thank you enough to Fern Hill Weddings, Sue and her team of amazing people. Thank you!!!!! I was thrilled with my experience. The event coordinator and staff were so helpful and thorough when touring the beautiful, wooded property. All of my questions were answered before I could even ask. During my rehearsal and until the end of my wedding the staff at McCann were friendly, available, and accommodating. McCann weddings is a beautiful venue with so many choices for where on the property you want your ceremony. There is a gazebo overlooking a pond, there is a river under the shade of the trees, there is a beautiful garden with fountains. I highly recommend McCann Weddings to anyone looking for quality and class.
