Small Change (James Dier) was awesome. He was great at reading the crowd and switching up what he played to keep people on the dance floor. He was responsive and helpful when we were choosing special songs and submitting songs we didn't want played.

James Dier "DJ Small Change" worked with us to find the perfect blend of music. All of our guests raved about the music. He has an incredibly extensive collection of music.

His was able to make some helpful suggestions and made it hard to get off the dance floor!

If you want your wedding party to DANCE this is the guy. He is a club DJ who does the wedding reception thing (on the side I think), which means his goal is to get people really dancing not to just pass the allotted time. He made our wedding...reception! It went v. late and no one wanted it to end. He is also very easy to work with and laid back/flexible.

Jim is the man. Over the years my husband and I attended two weddings at which he DJ’ed - different people, different vibes, different tastes, different venues – and despite all those differences the most important thing was the same: ASSES ON THE DANCE FLOOR. Sweaty, jubilant, joyful movements from all ages and all friend and family groups. And isn’t that the kind of celebration you want for your wedding?
So when it came time to figure out music for our wedding, not only did I, a woman with pages upon pages of detailed research for every vendor, not research anyone else, but James was one of the first vendors we booked. His deep and passionate love of all kinds of music, flawless transitions, and ability to read the room make him the perfect choice, whatever your taste in music. After each of our meetings with Jim, my music fanatic husband couldn’t stop speaking admiringly about his taste and knowledge. And he’s a tough one to please when it comes to music!
We had two meetings with him, that last one a few weeks before the wedding, worked on providing a playlist for cocktail hour, and a sense of what we wanted for the dancing, and he worked with our other vendors and venue on the tech setup needed. He knows what he’s doing, so we could do less - invaluable.
Jim comes from a place of love of music and the power it has to MAKE a celebration - so if you want someone who is gonna get on the microphone and encourage your guests to dance, and editorialize about the event, he’s NOT your guy. But if you want someone who lets his spinning do the talking, hire him. You will not be disappointed.
On a personal note, he is mellow, kind, and attentive, and made us not only reassured that he had this component handled, but excited for the wedding. Not all of our vendors instilled that sort of confidence and anticipation.

Small Change was awesome. We met with him a few months out just to get some face time in. We talked wedding for about 15 minutes and hung out for another hour or so just chatting and getting to know him. We hired him for who he is and for his style so we didn't have a lot of requests but the few we asked for he was able to throw in the mix. He started music right after the ceremony that catered to a cocktail hour and cranked it up as the night went on. He had the place dancing from young to old. I still get comments on how good the DJ was.

We emailed prior to the wedding a few times just to confirm details, directions, etc. He was on time, dressed sharp, professional and just played great tunes. He wasn't on the mic, calling out the crowd, etc.

Only lack of 5 stars is the Value. He got 4 because he's not a value DJ, you pay a little more for quality and he's def that. If you want to have your run of the mill wedding DJ, don't hire $c, he's not that. He's really good at what he does and for that you pay a premium. The music was very important to us so we budgeted to pay slightly more for the quality and it was worth every penny.

He came with his own equipment, had a mic for the best man speeches, speakers, etc.

He was awesome, really happy with him as a choice, I'd do it again in a heartbeat but hopefully I'm only getting married once!

We loved DJ Small Change! He did a great job translating our musical tastes to what would work on the dance floor and get people moving. Everyone had a GREAT time dancing- we're still hearing about how much fun it was! He also provided music for our ceremony and cocktail hour in three separate rooms- no easy task! Everything went off without a hitch, sound quality was great, and he even checked in with us during the reception to see if we wanted certain songs played. He also met with us twice before the wedding to nail down details and get to know us a little better. Super cool guy and we'd highly recommend him.

$mall ¢hange (aka James Dier) will never stop. A musical addict, he's been collecting and DJing for over 15 years, has 10s of thousands of records, in every conceivable genre and time period. Seriously deep crates in funk, jazz, blues, soul, latin, reggae, dancehall, hip hop, house, breaks, jungle, booty bass, classics, rawk n' roll, punk, vintage RnB, disco, downtempo, ambient, experimental...you get the picture. Some people say they're eclectic--this homeslice lives it, with the skills to mix it all together.

Jim Dier is mean

Jim Dier lives in an echo chamber that sounds like a little child who doesn't know how the grownups talk to each other.

This guy is totally unprofessional. He was extremely slow to respond to emails to set up a meeting. We weren't convinced he would even show up to meet us. He did, taking a good deal of our time, although he kept forgetting the venue and date of the event and seemed generally slow. Then he called me the next day to say that he was actually unavailable for our wedding date after all. We liked his sets that we heard online, and thought he would play great music, but no one needs to deal with such a flake when planning a wedding or any other party.
