Learn how our business started.

Back in 1974, Dan Trotochaud Senior left behind a 30 year career in men's clothing sales to start Dan's Rent-a-Tux. The name said it all - he was upper Michigan's only tuxedo rental specialist. From its very first bridal season, the business was a surprising success.

Together with his wife, June, the Trotochauds owned and operated the business until 1981.

Trotochaud's son, Dan Trotochaud, Jr., the proprietor of Lemon's Studio, assumed ownership and changed the business name to Dan's Formal Wear. June continued to manage the business until her retirement in 1984. In 1985, Trotochaud's sister, Kay Trotochaud Fure, returned from California to assume ownership of the business.

In December of 1989, Fure built a new location for the business next door. The 3,600 square foot location was built with the idea of leasing retail space to a bridal shop. In December of 2001, Fure converted the leased space into her own bridal shop, changing the name to Dan's Bridal & Tuxedo.

The ladies at Dan's Bridal were amazing- always helpful and professional. They care about avery detail in making your wedding apparel the way you want it. I would absolutely reccommend them to anyone.

I felt they were very helpful and sweet, my only problem is that as a plus size woman I did not have many options and it is hard to judge if you're going to like something if you can barely get it over your hips. I did end up liking my dress a lot, ut I think had I had more plus size options I would have picked a different dress.

The staff made me feel like I was the only one who mattered. They have private rooms for you to try on where your family/friends can also sit and view the dress. The owner even makes her rounds to see how everything is going and if any assistants is needed.

The ladies at Dan's were awesome to work with. I needed a rush ship on my dress and they were able to do that for me, get it in and altered in no time! The only issue I had was that when I went in for my first fitting, the alterations that needed to be done were to have cups sewn in, sew a belt on, a bustle, and have the bottom shortened- which meant they had to remove the bottom lace, cut the dress & sew the lace back onto the bottom. When I went to pick the dress up the following week, I was told something had been done to the front top of the dress too- I still to this day don't know what exactly was done!

I highly recommend Dan's, the ladies were all totally professional, the alterations were awesome & done in a very timely manner. However, ask for prices before you get them done. I really didn't expect to have to pay over $300 to have the dress altered when I'd already paid $1100+ for the dress!

They mixed up my dad's and brother's tux because they have the same name, even though we specifically told them about it. They have different middle names so it shouldn't have been that hard, they just missed it. However, we did get all of the tux's on time and they looked very nice.

The staff made my family and I feel very welcome during the process of selecting a dress, but they seemed to just be in in for the money after a dress was selected.

My wedding dress was fantastic, but they forgot one minor alteration. Two of my bridesmaids had to have last minute alterations done by my mom because Dan's Bridal claimed they were performed, but obviously had not done them (my mom is a professional seamstress and can tell). Their service was great until everything was picked up and paid for, then they still claimed they did the alterations and did not refund my bridesmaids anything for the inconvenience.
