Back in 1974, Dan Trotochaud Senior left behind a 30 year career in men's clothing sales to start Dan's Rent-a-Tux. The name said it all - he was upper Michigan's only tuxedo rental specialist. From its very first bridal season, the business was a surprising success.
Together with his wife, June, the Trotochauds owned and operated the business until 1981.
Trotochaud's son, Dan Trotochaud, Jr., the proprietor of Lemon's Studio, assumed ownership and changed the business name to Dan's Formal Wear. June continued to manage the business until her retirement in 1984. In 1985, Trotochaud's sister, Kay Trotochaud Fure, returned from California to assume ownership of the business.
In December of 1989, Fure built a new location for the business next door. The 3,600 square foot location was built with the idea of leasing retail space to a bridal shop. In December of 2001, Fure converted the leased space into her own bridal shop, changing the name to Dan's Bridal & Tuxedo.
