About

Wedding Stage Management (Planning & Coordination)

First things first: why do we call ourselves "stage managers" instead of planners or coordinators? The answer is simple, and it's the reason (we think) we stand out from other event planners. Both of us work as theatre stage managers, and combined we have more than twenty years of experience managing live events.

As stage managers, it's our job to make sure everyone is doing what they are supposed to be doing, the way they are supposed to be doing it, at the designated time; and then to fix problems swiftly (and often, creatively) if they do arise. We are accustomed to executing the collaborative vision of designers and directors to their specifications. Having also worked as costume, lighting, and scenic designers, we possess aesthetic sensibilities as well as the technical knowledge to make them happen. We think this combination of skills sets us apart.

We've worked on all kinds of different shows, from one-man political pieces to full-scale musicals to puppet shows in miniature and everything in between. We have the flexibility to bring your unique vision to life, and we are not afraid to do something a little out of the ordinary - in fact, we love things that are a little bit off the beaten path. We are geeky about researching things we know little about. So - if you've got something quirky in mind, we say, bring it on!

We can help you as much or as little as you want with the design and planning parts of your wedding, and you can count on us to make it happen the way you envision it.

Handmade Help

In addition to traditional event planning, we are excited to offer our crafty skills for your DIY/DIT wedding projects. We love to make stuff, and we're pretty good at it. If you are getting overwhelmed by projects for your wedding or event, but you don't want to give up your carefully-designed handmade aesthetic, let us be your crafty best friend! From selecting projects and materials to cutting, pasting, and putting it all together, we can bring your unique vision to life.

Had a great experience with my dress alterations. They made me feel 100% comfortable the whole time. I would absolutely recommend them. The price was slightly high than I expected but they did a lot of work and the dress fits and looks amazing!

I went to Crafty Broads to alter my dress, and they did a fabulous job for me. My needs were pretty simple (just needed to add a simple bustle and take up my dress straps a little), so I think it was easy for them. They were friendly, considerate, and had great prices upon researching other dress alterations options. I know they also offer Coordination services & would have definitely considered hiring them for that if we had had a Chicago wedding/hired a coordinator!

(I posted this review on Yelp too but wanted to add it here and spread the word!) Hiring Cindy as our wedding day-of coordinator was one of the best decisions we made after getting engaged!

The pre-wedding meetings were so helpful in making sure we were on the right track and had thought of everything for our wedding - Cindy helped us think about so many things we never would have thought about otherwise - even if it was to say, "nope, we're not doing that!" And having someone to help us understand what was / was not a good idea when planning was so helpful.

And of course, on the day of the wedding, having someone to take care of the details and save us from any work that day was incredible. It was awesome that any time I went to Cindy with a question, she already knew the answer and was on top of whatever needed to be done. I felt so confident that Cindy had everything under control!

And last but not least - Cindy made sure we had plenty to eat & drink that day! It's easy to fall in to the trap of over-socializing and under-eating so Cindy made sure had plenty of time to relax, eat, and drink!

We worked with Crafty Broads for our wedding planning and day of coordination. If you are looking for someone with a ton of wedding know-how, who will help you create the day that you are imagining, Cindy is definitely your lady. Cindy and Julia helped our vision of our wedding take flight, as well as offer their own ideas without being too intrusive. Not only did they help us find top-notch vendors, they also helped us save a lot of money in the process. On our wedding day,Cindy came to the rescue, saving us from an unexpected hiccup. Our bridal bouquets were stolen and she made replacements out of our leftover flowers. She spared us the stress of knowing about the incident until the replacement bouquets were in our hands AND her handiwork was even more beautiful than the expensive originals! We highly recommend working with these ladies of many talents.

Cindy and Julia were undeniably fantastic for our wedding. The whole day went seamlessly, and I credit them with a lot of that. They were able to turn our boxes full of unassembled decorations into exactly what we wanted our reception to look like, with minimal direction and less help. Our outfits were expertly tailored. The party flowed seamlessly the whole evening, under their expert guidance and prodding. My mother, who had been expecting to watch the clock and "run the show," despite our protestations to the contrary, was relaxed and dancing for the whole celebration. Those photos we have of my mother laughing on the dance floor are a) so much what I had hoped to have happen at the party and b) thanks to us being able to turn over the details of the day to Cindy and Julia, with zero hesitation.

And they really went above and beyond for us. Our cake/photos table came out approximately a gazillion times more beautifully than I had envisioned. That was one tiny detail of a thousand that absolutely made my night.
Additionally, when my mother had a planning melt-down while visiting 6 months before the wedding, having a meeting with Crafty Broads was exactly what she wanted and needed. After 20 minutes of conversation, she was no longer melting down, and she was excited about the wedding. It was like magic. These women, they're like magic.

The Wedding Stage Managers did our wedding and I will be forever... I mean FOREVER.... grateful. "Wedding" and "stage management" go together like peanut butter and jelly or champagne and brie. These ladies not only can plan, organize, and successfully "liase" between diverse people, from vendors to wedding party, but they also have a real knack for reading their bride and knowing how much help she not only needs but wants. Take, for example, my casual mention of my desire to have a DIY photo booth at the wedding. Cindy then casually researched a few different professional companies, talked to her connections, and emailed me two amazing deals she had come across. Yeah, on further thought, who wants to be worrying about setting up a photo booth on her wedding day? She knew it, she never said it, she left the decision up to me, but by going the extra mile to find a few other options, she made my wedding day 150% less stressful.

Every time you contact them, you'll hear back right away. They ask the questions you've forgotten. On the day itself, they kept track of time and thanks to them, we could relax and enjoy. By the good grace of heaven, Cindy, and Julia, we fit the whole thing into the 4.5 hours for which we had the venue. CanNOT recommend the Crafty Broads highly enough.

I hired Crafty Broads to transform my mother's wedding dress into a wedding skirt for me. I LOVED how I felt in it. I will preface the following statements by saying I am a perfectionist and VERY detail-oriented, so some things may not have bothered others. The thread color used at the hem wasn't a perfect match and at first it bothered me but then I realized nobody except myself would be looking at that. The bustle looked amazing but 2 out of the 3 tie strings ended up breaking by the end of the night and I had to hold my train for the last 30 min of the reception. Timing was really the only major issue. My wedding was in late July and they ended up getting really behind on other summer weddings. I understand prioritizing, but they could have been a little better at communicating the delays. I was the one that had to contact them to find out details. It was close, but I was able to pick up my skirt in the beginning of July. At the end of the day, my wedding skirt turned out beautifully and it fit perfectly. I felt awesome wearing it, especially since it was a design I envisioned. My suggestions.. be very vocal about what you want, down to the last minor detail and speak up if you want something different. Contact them ASAP so you have plenty of time for fittings, adjustments, and possible delays. You will be happy with your final product.
