Built in 1746 by Augustine Claiborne, a Virginia state senator, Cousiac Manor served as a ferry point for travel between King Williams and New Kent. In 1947 the venue was purchased by the Hechler family and has, in recent decades, been preserved as a hunting and wildlife habitat. It was since opened for seasonal weddings and special events. Celebrating couples can take advantage of the get-ready suite on-site, preparing for their special day in total serenity. Their ceremony can also take place on the grounds, either in the green of the gardens or by the waterfront. Newlyweds can then enjoy a cocktail reception on the lawn of the Hechler House. The main reception experience can find its home in the Reception Hall, a refurbished dairy barn outfitted for romantic banquet dining. The dancing portion of the event takes on a life of its own thanks to the expansive dance floor, which is situated between the reception hall and the river.
