I found out I needed to be gluten free a few months before our wedding, so finding a cake seemed like an impossible feat. I thought maybe I just wouldn't be able to eat it. But then I discovered By the Way Bakery and omg. Gluten free, dairy free, and kosher was just an added bonus. These cakes are DELICIOUS. You would never know it's gluten free. Helene and team were so lovely to work with and our cake turned out better than I could have imagined. Before choosing our cake, we did a tasting with cupcakes, which was so much fun. Will be a customer for life - the Mo Mix snack is also unbelievable.

My husband and his mom are both gluten free and his dad, a few of our wedding guests, and I are all dairy free so we knew that we had to get a cake that accommodated these dietary restrictions. My best friend had an amazing experience using By the Way Bakery for her wedding a few years ago and we knew that it was a perfect match for us as well when we found out that their cakes are gluten and dairy free.

Helene was such a pleasure to work with and made the process of picking our wedding cake nice and easy. When we couldn’t decide between two different combinations of cake, filling, and icing, Helene showed us an example of what our cake would look like with the exact type of finish that we wanted.

The cake turned out exactly how we wanted and our guests were raving about how delicious the cake was (and that they couldn’t even tell that it was both GF and DF)! We’re so happy that we chose By the Way Bakery and look forward to getting more cakes from them in the future!

If you're looking for a gluten-free (/diary-free/kosher) cake, By the Way Bakery is the best! I love cake, so needless to say I was excited for my wedding cake. What's more, my husband has Celiac disease, so it was important to me that we have a gluten-free cake. I also had big dreams of having a funfetti cake. By the Way knocked it out of the ball park. Owner Helene was so easy to communicate with and patient as we made up our mind on the frosting design. It came out beautifully and tasted delicious. Guests loved the cake and raved about it—without even knowing it was gf/df. One of the best and easiest decisions of our whole wedding planning process!

From start to finish, the owner, Helene, was directly involved in our wedding cake order and made sure it was perfect. I had ordered from the bakery for our engagement a few years back for some dietary needs of our guests, and I enjoyed the cake very much and returned for wedding cake. There were many things about our wedding that were "outside the box" (no swatches mailed with the dress color or florist, for example), and Helene was super understanding about the cultural differences of our south asian wedding and worked with us to get the cake just right to both her vision as a culinary artist, and our own vision! She was super kind and understanding of my lack of experience with wedding cake ordering and very flexible. She even went out of her way to call our venue when there was some confusion with the delivery time. Not only was our cake delicious, but it was also stunning. Our cake came with two pre-packaged delicious snacks that we enjoyed after our reception and that was nice surprise! Overall a great experience working with the bakery and especially Helene.

Let me start by saying I had a lot of trouble deciding what I wanted in terms of a wedding cake. My husband and I don’t keep kosher, but we needed a kosher bakery to make sure the meal would be OK for our kosher guests. Our caterer was already providing a variety of desserts, so we were thinking of a small sweetheart cake, but also needed something big enough to meet the delivery minimum. Helene is genuinely the sweetest lady and was so patient with me when I kept changing my mind! Eventually we decided on a 2-tier cake, with each tier a different flavor (though I do wish there were more flavors to choose from). She worked hard to make sure we got exactly the design and colors we wanted. The end result was a beautiful piece that guests kept coming up to get a look at. Plus it was so yummy – we’ve been working on the leftovers and our family agree that it tastes even better than a traditional cake! We’re so glad we picked By the Way Bakery, and definitely recommend them if you’re looking for wedding goodies to meet special dietary needs.

We had a Glatt Kosher wedding and thought it would be impossible task to find a dairy-free wedding cake that actually tasted good. We were about to give up on our search and not do a wedding cake when we found By The Way Bakery. Neither of us are gluten-free, but we were blown away by how amazing this cake tasted.

Helene was an absolute pleasure to work with, and her team brought our cake vision to life beautifully. She is communicative and kind, and was such a pleasure to chat on the phone and email with.

We got a cake from By The Way Bakery through their partnership with the Bronx Zoo. The cake was absolutely amazing! I would never have known the cakes were gluten and dairy free unless you told me. The process was incredibly seamless, we were able to order a variety of flavor and filling combinations for our tasting. Their chocolate cake is especially delicious and I could eat it forever. They were also incredibly flexible on mixing and matching cake designs.

I love BTW bakery and frequently pick items up from there monthly. It was a no brainer to use them for the wedding.

Quentin was helpful in setting up the tasting, answering all of our questions and the size needs for the cake. The room we were getting married in changed in design about a month before the wedding so we altered the cake design and Quentin was very helpful. We also ordered cookies and other misc. sweet items for our dessert table for guests to enjoy which came out beautiful!

The day of the wedding I received a call in the morning that the cake was unfortunately not brought into the bakery in NYC where we were going to pick it up. Instead it didn't make it on the truck but they advised they were going to deliver it to the venue free of charge.

All worked out super well and when a challenge came up they were upfront and communicative. I could not have asked for more.

Our guests loved the cake it was delicious and something people with many different allergies could eat!

This is my favorite bakery in NY and when we found out they did wedding cakes, we knew that we needed them to make our cake (both because their baked goods are amazing and because I’m gluten free). From the moment we reached out to find out more about their wedding cake selection, Helene was an absolute pleasure. We met her when we did our tasting and she made the entire experience run so seamlessly. From the tasting, to working out the details in the weeks before, she was fantastic. She was very responsive, gave us all of our options (i.e. different kinds of cakes, delivery v. pick up, etc.) and was very reasonable. The cake itself was phenomenal. We very highly recommend BTW bakery – especially if you are GF.
