I found out I needed to be gluten free a few months before our wedding, so finding a cake seemed like an impossible feat. I thought maybe I just wouldn't be able to eat it. But then I discovered By the Way Bakery and omg. Gluten free, dairy free, and kosher was just an added bonus. These cakes are DELICIOUS. You would never know it's gluten free. Helene and team were so lovely to work with and our cake turned out better than I could have imagined. Before choosing our cake, we did a tasting with cupcakes, which was so much fun. Will be a customer for life - the Mo Mix snack is also unbelievable. -

My husband and his mom are both gluten free and his dad, a few of our wedding guests, and I are all dairy free so we knew that we had to get a cake that accommodated these dietary restrictions. My best friend had an amazing experience using By the Way Bakery for her wedding a few years ago and we knew that it was a perfect match for us as well when we found out that their cakes are gluten and dairy free.
Helene was such a pleasure to work with and made the process of picking our wedding cake nice and easy. When we couldn’t decide between two different combinations of cake, filling, and icing, Helene showed us an example of what our cake would look like with the exact type of finish that we wanted.
The cake turned out exactly how we wanted and our guests were raving about how delicious the cake was (and that they couldn’t even tell that it was both GF and DF)! We’re so happy that we chose By the Way Bakery and look forward to getting more cakes from them in the future! -

Delicious Gluten Free Cake!
If you're looking for a gluten-free (/diary-free/kosher) cake, By the Way Bakery is the best! I love cake, so needless to say I was excited for my wedding cake. What's more, my husband has Celiac disease, so it was important to me that we have a gluten-free cake. I also had big dreams of having a funfetti cake. By the Way knocked it out of the ball park. Owner Helene was so easy to communicate with and patient as we made up our mind on the frosting design. It came out beautifully and tasted delicious. Guests loved the cake and raved about it—without even knowing it was gf/df. One of the best and easiest decisions of our whole wedding planning process! -

Let me start by saying I had a lot of trouble deciding what I wanted in terms of a wedding cake. My husband and I don’t keep kosher, but we needed a kosher bakery to make sure the meal would be OK for our kosher guests. Our caterer was already providing a variety of desserts, so we were thinking of a small sweetheart cake, but also needed something big enough to meet the delivery minimum. Helene is genuinely the sweetest lady and was so patient with me when I kept changing my mind! Eventually we decided on a 2-tier cake, with each tier a different flavor (though I do wish there were more flavors to choose from). She worked hard to make sure we got exactly the design and colors we wanted. The end result was a beautiful piece that guests kept coming up to get a look at. Plus it was so yummy – we’ve been working on the leftovers and our family agree that it tastes even better than a traditional cake! We’re so glad we picked By the Way Bakery, and definitely recommend them if you’re looking for wedding goodies to meet special dietary needs. -

We had a Glatt Kosher wedding and thought it would be impossible task to find a dairy-free wedding cake that actually tasted good. We were about to give up on our search and not do a wedding cake when we found By The Way Bakery. Neither of us are gluten-free, but we were blown away by how amazing this cake tasted.
Helene was an absolute pleasure to work with, and her team brought our cake vision to life beautifully. She is communicative and kind, and was such a pleasure to chat on the phone and email with.
We loved working with By The Way Bakery, and our guests raved about how good the cake tasted. We look forward to working with them again for future celebrations! -

We got a cake from By The Way Bakery through their partnership with the Bronx Zoo. The cake was absolutely amazing! I would never have known the cakes were gluten and dairy free unless you told me. The process was incredibly seamless, we were able to order a variety of flavor and filling combinations for our tasting. Their chocolate cake is especially delicious and I could eat it forever. They were also incredibly flexible on mixing and matching cake designs. -

I love BTW bakery and frequently pick items up from there monthly. It was a no brainer to use them for the wedding.
Quentin was helpful in setting up the tasting, answering all of our questions and the size needs for the cake. The room we were getting married in changed in design about a month before the wedding so we altered the cake design and Quentin was very helpful. We also ordered cookies and other misc. sweet items for our dessert table for guests to enjoy which came out beautiful!
The day of the wedding I received a call in the morning that the cake was unfortunately not brought into the bakery in NYC where we were going to pick it up. Instead it didn't make it on the truck but they advised they were going to deliver it to the venue free of charge.
All worked out super well and when a challenge came up they were upfront and communicative. I could not have asked for more.
Our guests loved the cake it was delicious and something people with many different allergies could eat! -

Helene was amazing to work with! From the first appointment set up chat to the tasting to follow-ups throughout she was a pleasure to work with, super professional and the cake came out amazing! The cake was a hit! We can’t be more appreciative of the work done by this bakery! 5 stars a around! -

Allie Sent on 08/15/2018First off I just want to say how much WE LOVE BY THE WAY BAKERY and from the first time I tried their cupcakes I knew this would be the place to get my gluten free wedding cake! Our wedding cake was beyond amazing and beautiful. For the most part our guests had no idea they were eating gluten free cake and multiple people had told us how much they enjoyed our cake! Lia from the Hastings-on-Hudson location helped us from start to finish from setting up our cake tasting, to dealing with my emails and requests and making sure the cake topper and delivery went smoothly, we really cannot thank her enough for all she did for us to make it a wedding cake I could not only eat and enjoy!!! Even if you don't have a gluten issue you should definitely try BTW!!

We needed to find a pareve (non-dairy) cake to comply with our venue's kosher rules, and given the state and ingredients of most kosher desserts, I had all but decided to skip out on having a cake altogether. And then we found BTB Bakery. Helene was warm and communicative from the start and set up a tasting with us at their NYC store. Each of the six cupcakes we tried was FABULOUS. They ended up making us a lemon cake with icing made from fresh raspberries to serve 250 guests... perfect for a summer day. Helene delivered it *personally* to our venue several hours away from NYC. Several guests told us it was the best wedding cake they'd ever eaten, and no one knew it was gluten- and dairy-free. I would recommend BTB Bakery to anyone, regardless of their dietary limitations or lack thereof. Fabulous fabulous fabulous. -

Helene and her team did a wonderful job and even took the time to learn how to make a Norwegian wedding cake for our wedding. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this bakery. The food is delicious, the staff helpful and caring, and their professionalism is top notch. -

We ordered a two tier coconut cloud cake for our wedding, plus 100 mini coconut cupcakes for our guests. I've tried literally every gluten free cake on the market, and BTW's cake out shines them all. It is so delicious and moist that you can't even tell that it isn't "normal" cake!
Our wedding cake was beautiful, simple, and elegant. The cupcakes were a huge hit too, and they worked great with our other passed desserts. Everyone was raving about the cake and cupcakes, and I didn't tell anyone they were gluten free!
Helene, the owner, is wonderful to work with and she handles all wedding orders herself. She is very responsive and answers every question you may have, no matter how silly they may seem! She walked us through our cake tasting in her NYC shop, then delivered the cake on our wedding day, so I knew we were in good hands the whole time. I love By The Way and I can’t wait to celebrate our next big event with more of their delicious desserts! -
Alyson Sent on 09/14/2018I am gluten-free and my husband is not but we still wanted to partake in the tradition of cutting the cake. In comes By the way Bakery to save the day! The cake we got from them was insanely delicious and no one, my husband included, could tell that it was not glutinous! Helene was wonderful and easy to work with - very responsive, she let us try some samples before we ordered to make sure it was what we wanted even though we were ordering a smaller cake and ended up helping us combine a few different flavors to get the exact cake we were looking for (coconut cake with coconut and chocolate frosting - YUM!). I seriously can't wait to unfreeze and eat the top on our first anniversary :)
