About
Alwyngton Manor proudly brings forth receptions in the true tradition of the South. The bride and her groom have the time and space to mingle among their guest tables or open areas and personally receive those in attendance. This exquisite and beautifully maintained "Taraesque" Southern Mansion, with large rooms, rose garden and gazebo on rolling lawns, just 45 minutes from the Beltway, is the perfect location for that special event..The magnificent Rose Garden at Alwyngton is a much sought after site for unforgettable wedding ceremonies. The entrance to the Victorian Era garden is through an ivy draped archway. One hundred pale pink rose bushes adorn the inside of the ivy-covered walls. The dramatic lily pond with shimmering gold fish enhances the already romantic setting. The Bride makes her entrance walking down the manicured lawn or in a horse drawn "Gone With The Wind" carriage. The gazebo at Alwyngton is nestled among 150-year-old trees and is an additional option for a ceremony site.
Choosing Alwyngton affords a Bride the most personal service available in the Washington, DC area. Photographers praise the countless opportunities for spectacular wedding photographs. Caterers rave about the kitchen and the ease of serving the guests.
This historic site once owned by John Quincy Marr, the first Confederate Soldier killed in the Civil War, has beautifully appointed bed and breakfast rooms, all with private baths, available for overnight guests. John Quincy Marr, who built the manor in 1855 for his mother, sisters and himself. Unfortunately, Mr. Marr would not enjoy his home for long. In 1861 at the Fairfax Courthouse, he became the first confederate officer to be killed in the Civil War. The next owner, Scott Nesbitt, bought the home in the 1890's. He raised his children there and saw his grandchildren raised there. I hope I will be fortunate enough to see my future generations in the manor also. As you can see, we are proud of our home and its history and that is why we enjoy sharing it with you. We are here to accommodate your needs and see that you and your guests have a carefree and wonderful experience during your special occasion at Alwyngton Manor.
