When hiring a videographer for your wedding day, keep in mind you are hiring someone to capture the unpredictability and spontaneity that will surely occur throughout your event. This person should follow you everywhere that day, but also be invisible at the same time! The days of bulky cameras, cables, and bright lights are gone. Today's videographers understand the importance of being discreet with their equipment and, with the help of modern technology, this can be accomplished very easily.

With that concern out of the way, it's time to start your search.

Assuming you are not already familiar with the ins-and-outs of video technology, it's important to do your research when it comes time to selecting your videographer. Services, style, and format will differ from artist to artist. Here are a few things to consider:

  • Shooting style (documentary, straight-cut, etc.)
  • Sound quality
  • Editing style (video length, transitions, etc.)
  • Musical selections
  • Shooting in HD

  • Begin your search by asking friends, family, and your other wedding vendors for references or read newlywed reviews for advice. When meeting with these prospective videographers, you should come away with a good idea of how they will capture your wedding from beginning to end. If they don't offer first, ask to see some of their previous work, including weddings with similar styles, lighting, and locations to yours.

Be sure to make a list of the essentials—your "must have" list should detail the friends/family you want included, the wedding scenes you want covered (getting ready, first kiss, first dance, cake cutting, etc.), and the musical soundtrack of the finished product. Regardless of the videographer's shooting style, he or she will be able to cover these specifics and ensure they are included.

Once you have found your videographer, rest assured that the memory of your wedding day will last forever!
