Do you offer live sample performances or CDs?
We have regularly scheduled live showcases. Please contact us directly for specific information as to dates, times, and locations. We also offer DVDs.
Are you willing to learn songs that you do not currently know?
We are frequently learning new songs for our clients. Many have special requests for specific dance selections that bear special significance.
How much time do you usually need for setup?
Our two sound engineers always arrive two or more hours before guests are scheduled to arrive to make certain that all setup is completed, and sound checked prior to guests entrance into the area where the band will be performing.
How much space do you usually require?
We are able to set up in a variety of locations, as we play many different types of venues ranging from very large hotel ballrooms to smaller mansions.
Do you have a sign or banner that you use at events?
In the interest of propriety and good taste, the only signage that we use is our band logo which is on our individual bandstands.
What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?
Whenever there is ample space and power for our set up, we run our own stage lighting, which is the same lighting used in all of our videos. Although we can contract other lighting such as disco balls etc., we prefer to keep outr focus on what we do best - the music.
Do you usually emcee the event, or talk between songs?
We script and mc every event we perform for, in accordance with the needs and personal style of our clients.
How would you motivate the crowd if no one is dancing?
We never have an issue with non-dancing crowds! Literally all of the events we play for have people up and dancing. During any periods of time when people are choosing to converse or have less dance activity, we are sensitive to their energy, and play music that is artistically pleasing while accommodating our clients desire at that point in time to maintain interest at a proper level for their enjoyment. In turn, our clients thoroughly enjoy these varied artistic musical selections as much as any of our more upbeat party dance tunes! We receive many compliments on these selections.
What is your policy on taking breaks? If you need a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
We offer both "continuous live music" and "full band live" with two short breaks. Any band that says they play full band live non stop for four hours or more is being less than honest. This simply doesn't happen. What they are not telling the client is that they are taking regularly scheduled, "staggered" breaks, where some players leave the bandstand to take breaks, while the remaining band members continue playing. For the client who doesn't mind if the full band isn't on all the time, this works well. For the client who prefers the full band to be playing when the band is on, then the method of full band live works far better. In the end, the reality is, that there is less actual total break time with full band live, especially when the two moments for breaks are strategically placed where live music might be substituted for recorded music for a brief period, such as during the middle of a main course where guests are conversing, and their attention is less on the music. At this same point in time, the better facilities do have something provided for the band to reenergize and prepare for the most demanding portion of the event.
Do you play recorded music during your break?
Recorded or live, there is never "dead space". Recorded music is provided only as requested by our client. Some of our clients ask to have our sound man provide a short DJ set of three or four dance tunes later in the evening, while others opt to have a short background selection of a few tunes during entree to maintain full band live as soon as they are ready to resume dancing.
If one or more of the band members is unable to attend, what is your backup plan?
Our band is notoriously known as one of the most sought after by the best musicians in Philadelphia wanting to be a part of it at any opportunity. Our band is also well known as a top flight line up, and there are many great musicians who have volunteered their talent, should the need ever arise to invite them to join the band for a date. Another major feature of the Don Eaton Band is that the talent is so abundant, and so diversified, that the band is able to function amazingly well even if one (or two - which is highly unlikely) of our regular members should be unable to attend a date. With SIX lead vocalists, and a three piece horn section, the band has the capacity to maintain it's strength in these conditions better than most. This, combined with the fact that we've been together as this band for over fifteen years makes the Don Eaton Band extremely adaptable to less than favorable conditions.
What is your overtime rate?
Overtime is prorated.
Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?
Within 90 minutes of Philadelphia there are no travel expenses added to our cost. Beyond this radius, travel expenses are based on travel time, and whether or not the event ends early enough for band to safely return to Philadelphia. If band members need to stay over, then lodging accommodations must be made.
What is the required deposit to secure your services?
A 20% deposit is required to hold and book the band for a given event.
