Frequently Asked Questions for Photography
Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?
We do it all! Sepia toning, hand coloring, special effects and more! All images on disk come in just color with simple color corrections, but can be printed at any lab in black and white as well. Any prints ordered through us digital effects are free, this includes retouch and hand coloring.

Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
We've experienced almost every lighting situation imaginable... and have been trained in all kinds of ways to deal with them. The worst of these situations being back-lit, bright sunshine, or no available light we have ways of making any photograph beautiful.

Is your media preference film or digital?
We can work in either format... but we mostly do digital now for these reasons: 1.) It allows us to take so many more photos than we could with film 2.) We can check our images as we go for quality control. 3.) The ability to change film speeds without having to change film, this is great for events when lighting changes. 4.) It allows us to put your images online for viewing and create gorgeous albums.

How many photographers do you work with?
There are packages for one or two photographers. I am confident enough that if I am hired by myself to photograph your wedding that every aspect of your wedding will be covered. A typical six-hour wedding yields approx. 1000 to 1200 images when I am alone. By picking a package with more than one photographer you will get more candid shots and different angles of every event and approx. 1500 to 2500 images.

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
Yes, of course!

Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
Never book more than one wedding a day. There are only so many weekends in the summer so the likeliness of us having more than one wedding in a weekend is very good.

Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
We have a list of professionals that we would go through to cover your event. We have never missed a wedding in the 8 years that we have been in business!

What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?
Camera and a back-up camera, flash and a back-up flash, depending on the location and time-frame: lights, lens, cards, etc.

Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
Yes! Yes! Yes! This is never a question, once in a lifetime events deserve treatment as such with a plan ?B?

Do you charge hourly or full day?
Packages except for our highest-grade package are set up hourly. Because we offer unlimited photos taken within our contracted period the amount of photos taken and the amount of time editing after the event is considered in our prices so that we can cover our wages for the amount of time involved in processing all the images from your event.

Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours?
Overtime is available for $150 per an hour extra in all but the smallest package we offer.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
Other than to get a quick bite to eat... none... we are working through the entire event.

Do you charge for travel?
We only charge for distances over a 100 mile radius from Denver. This varies on whether or not we will have to get accommodations for the evening.

How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?
Images are available online to view within one-two weeks of the wedding. Proof books & high-resolution images on disks are available 4-6 weeks from the wedding.

In what format are the initial proofs offered?
Online and in proof books. All packages include your high resolution images on CD as well.

How long can the client keep the proofs?
All proof books, prints, CDs, DVD, etc. any product given to you is yours to keep.

Do you retain the copyright for the photos?
We technically own the copyright to all images we produce forever, however we do provide a copyright release form for printing your images however you would like for personal (noncommercial) use only..

Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?
Yes, unless for some reason the couple requests beforehand that they not be used. It is usually very exciting for our clients to see their wedding images in print in a bridal magazine or to find out that their image won an award.

Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?
Yes

Will images be available for viewing online?
Yes

What kind of albums do you offer?
We offer coffee table style books and leathercraftsmen flush mount albums. These are not your mother?s wedding album! They are fun, creative and we involve you in the creation process.

When will the client get the final album?
For packages with albums we involve our clients in the production... after the client has given us their album selections we design a draft of the album and place it online for them to view. We go through changes to the book until they are satisfied (3 Free Rounds of Changes, $25 per a round thereafter) upon final approval it takes 4-6 weeks for the book to return from the binders.

Tips and Advice
1.) Smile, I want to take a photo too! The first biggest problem that I as a photographer run into when doing the formal portraits at a wedding is everyone else wanting to take their own photo with their cameras as I am taking them. Even though it is in the contract that I am the exclusive photographer, I don't have a problem letting others shoot photos of their own, I just ask that they wait until I am done taking mine... Often times when others are trying to take photos at the same time it turns their direction away from me and we end up with everyone looking all over the place, just not at me, which makes a very unpleasant photograph. And if I have to ask them to please wait I look like the bad cranky photographer... It always seems better coming from the couple. And if you ask they'll listen. It also helps a lot if you educate your guests beforehand. This also saves time.

2.) Time Management
. Speaking of guests with cameras. No one really likes taking the formals as it cuts into party time, and I really strive to keep it under an hour. You get a disk of all your photos so think about that every time we have to stop and let a family member take a picture between poses. This is time away from the reception and the fun photos that I love to take of just the two of you!

3.) H20 - A few weddings I've been to provided bottled water for the guests... I thought that was a wonderful idea... especially for outdoor weddings. Or at the very least someone (ie maid of honor) should be standing by with water for the bride & groom, since they can't travel too far during the formals... Photos take a while and you can become parched and tired during the session... Again especially in the hot sun... I don't want anyone passing out on me!

4.) The Bride & Groom Session. Really it should just be the two of you and me. If we have an entourage of 10 people following us, it's kind of hard to make it romantic and intimate... Just so you know.

5.) Surprises! If someone is doing something special for the bride & groom I'd like to know about it beforehand. I'd hate to miss it because I was covering something else... And I can keep a secret... I promise!

6.) Show Off Your Dress. Your dress in the plastic bag that says "David's Bridal" etc. isn't that pretty.... Take it out of the bag before we arrive... Hang it somewhere nice like on a doorway, a mirror, or a bedpost... This way we can get some great up close details of it... This makes awesome background images in the albums I design.

7.) Feeling Good! You should feel GREAT and rested on the day of your wedding... I highly discourage bachelor and bachlorette parties the night before your wedding. Or heavy drinking the day of or before the ceremony... While I know it's your wedding and I don't want to tell you what to do... it does make a huge difference on your well being on your special day! Imagine having a headache all day or feeling ill as you greet guest after guest and smile for photographs. Having a hangover, it can, and probably will show in your photographs and I won't be able to retouch that out later.

8.) Special Requests - I am always happy to fulfill any special shot requests at anytime, by any member of your family! Just let me know... as our packages state... the photos are unlimited for our contracted times. So no matter how wacky, weird, or how large the group... I'm there to serve you and make sure every possible moment is captured! Likewise, if I make a special request for a moment of your time to do a photograph please consider it... because even if it feels weird or takes up some extra time it may make the difference between your everyday wedding photos and ones that when people look at them they say “Wow!”

9.) Other Neat Tricks I’ve Picked Up - I usually carry a bridal emergency kit with me to weddings, but in case I forget or run out of an item here’s what you should have in it:
1. Needle & Thread to fix clothing items. 2. A Tide Pen or White Chalk to remove stains from your dress. (Sticking with white wine or champagne for the event is your best beverage choice.) 3. Scissors (Someone almost always needs these at a wedding for one reason or another) 4. Feminine Hygiene Products, Hey stress does weird things to your body’s chemistry! 5. Tape & Glue (I’ve seen them used to fix everything from a heel to the candle stands) 6. Tissues for inevitable crying. 7. Nail File & Polish not only fixes broken nails, but stocking runs. 8. Extra bobby pins and hair ties. 9. Antacid, Tylenol, band-aids, & mints!

10.) Take it All In! Last, but certainly not least enjoy your day... This may be your one and only opportunity in life to feel like a rock star! You may be wearing the most expensive gown you've ever worn, you've had your hair and make-up put on special... And every one of your friends and family is there to celebrate with you! Enjoy it! Allow the day to just happen... Let everyone else pamper you! Carpe Diem! And don't worry your photos and videos are going to be awesome!
