Chris Guillen Photography is here to capture your life! We work with black & white film as well as digital color. Our film photography is a beautiful art form, which allows finished prints to last generations, becoming family heirlooms like your great-grandparents’ photos. Digital color photographs are printed on beautiful “Photo Rag” paper allowing them to last generations as well. Our photographs encapsulate the quality, spirit, and personality of the event through a mix of past and present techniques.
Having four older sisters introduced Chris Guillen to the wedding scene at the ripe age of seven. He began his photography career with a B.F.A. from Illinois Wesleyan University. After graduation he swore he’d never shoot a wedding, but then met an accomplished black & white wedding photographer who opened Chris’s eyes to the way wedding photography should be done. In Chris’s opinion, there is no better poetic way to capture a wedding than using black & white film. He has now been shooting weddings since the “film days” over 14 years ago. Using film makes him uniquely selective and creative with the shots he takes because unlike digital cameras, film pictures cannot be reviewed or deleted. His experience allows him to meld art, life, and wedding knowledge with his clients and he looks forward to being a wedding photographer for decades to come.
Chris has a team of several digital shooters who he has trained to understand and capture the important wedding moments. For larger weddings, Chris prefers to bring one or more of them along to concentrate on black & white film and digital color separately. This provides better coverage for those weddings that couldn’t get the guest list under 400.
Our passion for wedding photography has provided us with the ability to recognize and capture the magical wedding moments. If you’ve read all of this, you should definitely give us a call, because we like you.
In an age where everything is digital and computerized, Chris Guillen Photography stands apart from the crowd. We at Three Graces Design appreciate and identify with their artistic process. If you are looking for someone to photograph a special occasion, wedding, or even family portraits, we highly recommend Chris Guillen Photography.
I love working with Chris. He is so much fun on site and has a beautiful eye for detail. You cannot go wrong by hiring Chris Guillen Photography!

Tips and Advice
• When looking at a photographer’s portfolio, pay particular attention to how they tell the stories and the presentation of their photos. If they have the same photo in their portfolio 3 or 4 times, they probably haven’t shot a lot of weddings or don’t have very many good photos. Find out if they use A LOT of Photoshop. We all use Photoshop but if they love it and seem like they HAVE to use it, chances are they’re not very good shooters. And remember, cropping is for farmers.
• Always meet your photographer before your wedding day. Your photographer will be the third wheel of the day and you want to be sure you both get along with him/her. In judging whether you would get along, base your approval on whether you’d like to go out for a drink with them.
• Gauge whether your photographer really likes to shoot weddings or if he’s just making some side money. You don’t want to hire a photographer who likes shooting weddings now, but won’t like it in a year (on your wedding day).
• In deciding on timeline of the day and locations for photographs, remember that this is YOUR day, not the photographer’s. Take the photographer’s suggestions, but ultimately do what you think is best.
• Always shoot your family photos and group shots BEFORE cocktail hour. Enough said.
• There are four songs that will get guys to dance at weddings: The Humpty Dance, You Shook Me All Night Long, Paradise by the Dashboard Light, and Old Time Rock & Roll.
