Would you wear your mother's veil?

Aimee, on July 16, 2014 at 8:35 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 33

I finally got around to having my wedding gown cleaned and ready to sell. Question is, should I sell the veil as well or keep it for future generations? Ladies, would you really wear your mother's old veil? I would love your opinions!

No to veil, yes to gown.

I am wearing my mom's veil and am honored to do so. I can't wear her dress since she was a size 8 in 1975 and I am so much more curvy than that!! I love that I am wearing something she wore on her wedding day, that she picked out with her mom (who passed when I was 10). Her's has a headpiece attached as well.

Not all daughters are the same body type as their mom, so they may not be able to wear the dress. The veil can be incorporated into the bouquet wrap of a FDIL if you have sons....I would keep the veil.

Absolutely, yes, I would wear her veil. She passed away a year before I got engaged and was buried in her wedding dress and veil = (

I would say yes to veil, no to the dress. And at the very least, I might like to use the lace to incorporate into my dress (if my mother was ok with it and I had no sisters or they were ok with it too). Also, a veil is much easier to store in a treasure box somewhere for 20-30 years than a whole dress.

Thank you everyone! You have definitely convinced me to keep my veil. I especially love the creative ideas for repurposing the veil.

I'm not wearing my mothers anything because my parent are divorce now but I will say that I saw another bride post something on here about wanting to wear her mothers veil and it had yellowed and didn't match her white dress anymore. So I would just make sure that it is preserved well.

Ya know...I probably would 1. because it would save me money about now. 2. it would be fun to have the family connection.......

BUT my mom's veil is purple (can we say hippy wedding!) hehe SO in this case nope...I won't be wearing her veil and I don't feel a big loss about it.

If my mom still had hers, I absolutely would wear it or incorporate it somehow. I am wearing my sister's veil. My bouquet will be wrapped with the pearls my grandfather gave my grandmother on their wedding day. Love family traditions!

Add me to the list of brides who wore a veil that was passed down through the family. Mine goes back to my great, great grandmother. If I have a daughter, I hope she continues the tradition. However, although my older sister also wore the veil, my younger sister is not planning to do so.

I probably wouldn't because my parents were divorced, but both my sisters were married in the tiara I'm wearing.

I considered wearing my moms, but its didnt fit. It was from the late 80's and was like a wrap around head thingy. It looked beautiful but I have a large head! Haha.

I plan to keep mine, its beautiful. (No joke: PAID $18 for it on EBAY from China!).
