Wooden ladder wedding arch... So this is happening!***update in comments***

Monica SC, on November 28, 2014 at 5:09 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 10

I have been kicking around the idea of making an arch for our ceremony out of a couple of wooden ladders. The pic below is my inspiration. Anyone seen this done or also planning on doing this?

I have found out they are sort of in short supply around here. One hardware store can special order them for us at about $125/per ladder. I'm thinking of looking on Craigslist or asking around on FB to see if anyone has an old one lying around the would sell me. I could paint two to match.

Nice wooden ladders don't ever seem to be inexpensive. You might find some sort of craft ladder used for decoration.

That is really cute, I can't believe wooden ladders are that expensive though, I would keep looking for cheaper ones.

They are expensive; what about using birch branches or something like that?

Yes, wooden ladders are expensive. The new fiberglass ones are cheaper. Our venue is a rooftop so it's a flat, cement floor. I want something sturdy, that can be set up quickly and will stand on its own without needing to be placed in a container with rocks, etc. If we don't do this we will just rent a regular arch.

I think it's a great idea, it would be really neat if you could find two old non painted ones, possibly at a second hand store or garage sale.

I found out, accidentally, that paint sticks really well to a fiberglass ladder. You could always try painting two of those!

Etsy has them for about $40 a pop. I bought one to use as shelving in our living room.

@ Amie....I would love to have the link to the shop on Etsy where you bought that!

I know you can get the 4ft ones anywhere, but the 6-10ft ones I have found start at $125/each and have to be special ordered.

I have been searching on FB and Craigslist and asking everyone I know about these ladders since November. Got a line on one tonight-and the lady lives like 15 minutes away from us. She is selling me this ladder for $25. It was in their basement when they moved into the house 6 months ago.

Now I just need one more, and I will purchase it online if I cannot fine it locally. That's within our budget. Very excited. We pick it up tomorrow afternoon! Smiley smile
