Who pays for the honeymoon?

As far as etiquette & tradition goes, the grooms parents pay for the honeymoon right? How do you about that conversation or do they offer?

FH and I are paying for our own wedding and honeymoon, but my mom offered to pay for my dress, and FH's parents are giving us 5K to spend how we wish. Tradition was thrown out the window because there is no way my parents could afford to pay for even a modest wedding. FH and I are pretty well established, and don't expect our parents to take care of us.

We don't expect our parents to take care of us either. We are just so fortunate to have ones that can afford AND offer to pay for our wedding Smiley winking

Accroding to theknot.com it is Groom and family when it comes to traditional who pays for what. http://wedding.theknot.com/getting-engaged/engaged/articles/wedding-budget-who-pays-for-what.aspx

If they offer great! If not just plan it yourself. I was told back when the movie Father of the bride came out by my mother " don't expect us to be able to pay for your wedding one day" I took that to heart and haven't asked for a thing. My mom did help with a small deposit for the hall.

In my circle, traditionally, the bride's family pays for the wedding & the groom's family pays for the RD & HM. However, the one thing I have learned from posting here is that every circle/region/culture has diff traditions & some have absolutely none at all.

Having said that, when my daughter was a small child, the ex & I promised my daughter if she did things the "right" way, meaning get married in the Catholic Church, we would pay for her wedding. It is the same thing my parents taught me. It is the only "request" we gave her. Together we paid for it.

Her ILs are also of the same culture & they paid for the RD, a welcome to Philly cocktail party the night before the wedding & gifted them their points to stay at the Disney resort in HI. My daughter & her H paid for the extras in the wedding(BP gifts, limo, flights back& forth, etc) and paid for their tickets to HI w/ miles. They used a miles credit card for their expenses while in HI & paid it off with wedding $ gifts.

Since I'm an older bride my FH and I will be paying for our entire wedding and honeymoon, and our honeymoon is quite expensive so even if mine parents and his parents were still living I couldn't imagine asking any of them to pay for a honeymoon, now days with the economy being what it is the tradition has quite changed.

My FH are paying for everything. We have been together for close to 11 years. We have savings to pay for it. We have had offers. The thing about offers is that they are often strings attached. We had an idea of what we wanted and don't want to compromise. There are 15 siblings between my FH and I, not to mention parents and grandparent opinions. We will have a ton of good food, something to please everyone. We will have good music and a beautiful space to have it.
