White wedding dress?

I am a Christian and a big believer in God! I am not pure so therefore I will not ask God to bound me and my husband together in a White Wedding dress. I am coming to him humbly and asking for forgiveness of all my sins by joining me and this man together so I will not come in purity (white) if I’m not pure I’m coming as I AM. I sinner asking to be whole/one/united. Do anyone else think like this? What’s your thoughts on purity and wearing white dresses even if your not pure?

I'm wearing white because it makes me feel like a bride, not because I'm a virgin. I also think it's super rare to wear a pure white wedding dress anymore. Does ivory or champagne still count? lol

I think at the end of the day a wedding dress can be whatever color you want it to be without garnering any symbolism behind it

Are you wanting ivory or champagne? My dress is ivory, but it’s ivory because I specifically didn’t want pure white as I look like a ghost

I am not remotely religious and don't believe in God, so that isn't a factor in deciding the colour of my dress. Even if I was, the origins of a white wedding dress in Western culture have absolutely nothing to do with religion and purity. White dresses caught on after Queen Victoria wore a simple white lace dress to her wedding in 1840. Prior to that, royal and other well off brides tended to wear lavishly decorated and brightly coloured silk dresses and fur trims, while less well off brides would often just wear "Sunday Best" in whatever colour that was, not an outfit bought specially for the occasion. Victoria set the trend, and her decision was down to wanting to show frugality and good sense as a young female queen whom many doubted, but it was later twisted and linked with the notion of virginity and religion.

So, in my opinion, any bride (religious or not) who wants to wear white should not be put off doing so because they have it in their heads that you can only do so if you are "pure" (a term I dislike anyway) as that is not the real history of the white wedding dress at all.

I'm wearing ivory over soft blush, but that's because it's what I fell for. If I'd fallen for a white dress, I would have had it.

I am also a big believer in God (so, high five for that!!). I care very much what He thinks of me, so try to live accordingly (fail, as I do, and will!). But, it is my opinion that He couldn’t possibly care less what I wear on any day of the year. My “purity” (of heart, of mind) hopefully come through loud and clear in my actions. That’s the God I know. Although I hold myself out to judgement by Him, I do not look for, nor accept, judgement by people, or based on people’s superficial rules. I wore white (ok, ivory, but it sure looked white) on my wedding day, and I was a 50-something year old second time bride, so “purity” as I think you are defining it was clearly not a factor. I rocked that dress and it was the best day of my life!!!!

In my opinion this is how I think and will continue to do so. Anyone who doesn’t believe in God can not tell me or convince anyone of anything. Thank you!

I'm not trying to convince anything of anything, you asked for opinions and I gave mine, and pointed out that white dresses aren't inextricably linked with purity as far as history goes. That's all. I respect everyone's beliefs and hope that they respect mine.

I went to 3 bridal salons and found like 1 pure white wedding dress at each one and I honestly figured Ivory still counted as white lol Regardless, people do not associate the "white" dress with being a virgin anymore so you can wear whatever color you want! Pretty sure that was a man made tradition anyways, not something to do with God. Mine is ivory but only because It was impossible to find any white wedding dresses and I didn't look that great in the color

I'd be really interested to know the bible passage that specifies that brides should wear white as a symbol of purity, as white weddings definitely weren't a thing here in the UK until the Victorian era and historically the UK was a Christian country for centuries before that time so I would have thought they would follow biblical teachings for religious weddings. It's always interesting to me to learn new facts 🙂

I agree I love knowing things I don’t do I am going to read up on this famous Queen I love to know why people followed her I had no clue about this women it’s just always been a thing for everyone I personally know...and white is a sign of pure and it’s in the Bible here’s the verse if you like to know.
Rev. 19:7-9 the Bible says, "Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honor to Him; for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife has made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white; for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. And he said unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he said unto me, These are the true sayings of God."

It doesn't specify "white". It just says "linen, bright and clean". Yellow can be bright, pink can be bright. It's an interpretation. It also says "interwoven with gold", "embroidered cloth" and "jewels" so there is no hard and fast rule.

I am also not religious, I looked it up just to make sure I wasn't making it up.
