I am a Christian and a big believer in God! I am not pure so therefore I will not ask God to bound me and my husband together in a White Wedding dress. I am coming to him humbly and asking for forgiveness of all my sins by joining me and this man together so I will not come in purity (white) if I’m not pure I’m coming as I AM. I sinner asking to be whole/one/united. Do anyone else think like this? What’s your thoughts on purity and wearing white dresses even if your not pure?

The origin of the white wedding dress has nothing to do with "purity." The fashion (and that's all it is) was started by Queen Victoria. (Before that, women got married in the nicest dress they already owned.) The idea was to flaunt your wealth by showing that you could afford a dress that you could only wear once (because a white dress, particularly a very ornate one, is impractical for daily wear).

Your virginity or lack of it is of concern only to you, your FH, and God. It is not the concern of your wedding guests (and even if it were, as described above, the color of your dress wouldn't tell them). So wear what you like, and don't worry about the color.

For reference, I wore ivory (which is really a shade of white) for my second wedding. My two children and my ex-husband were in attendance. I don't think any of our guests believed that the dress indicated that I was a virgin.

Fellow Christian here, that actually has a degree in Christianity (not just "religion") from a very prestigious Christian university, and I'm prettttty sure the verses you are referencing actually mean when you and your husband first have sex that you are to do so on a white sheet, so that the next morning when people come into your tent and remove the sheet, they can show everyone the blood on the sheet b/c you bled b/c you had sex the first time, and that's how they used to confirm your virginity...

That would make sense as bedding the bride and groom and checking the sheets the next morning as proof of consummation was routinely done in European royal families and aristocracies (and no doubt elsewhere too) for centuries to ensure that the marriage was legally valid and there would be no question of parentage should the bride become pregnant. Makes sense it would come from the Bible as they were (at the time) all Catholic. Thanks for sharing, all very interesting!

A white wedding dress is not actually associated with being pure. The tradition stems from royalty wearing white.

Honestly, I'm not sure why you started this conversation. You have strong beliefs, and if I read correctly, you chose an ivory dress. You are doing what you think is right. Other have different interpretations, but they won't change how you feel.

Do you want validation in your choice to not wear white, or do you want to justify wearing pure white, even though you feel it is wrong? Do you want to have some security about your guests judging you for not wearing pure white?

Except that you ARE judging people, Jasmine. Reading between the lines in almost all of your posts, I can almost see the “talk to the hand” motion. Your tone is disrespectful at best. And that offends me as a believer because I feel it turns people away from God instead of towards him. We all have our opinions about religion - and until we meet Him in person and know for a fact, they will remain opinions....that’s what faith is.

As I mentioned, I happen to believe in God, but also recognize that the Bible was written by men. I take the overarching theme of love over all else, much of which is inconsistent and subject to interpretation. In my *opinion*, your strict insistence on adhering to some obscure and interpreted bible passage while not loving your neighbor is exactly NOT what God wants from you. But again, that’s my opinion - I fully understand that yours is different so no need to respond. But please do consider that before posting another divisive post or holier-than-thou, disrespectful comment in this lovely community of people who continually take time out of their day to help and commune with wedding planners.
