Which potatoes would you prefer as a guest?

Sara, on August 19, 2021 at 2:19 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 30

We have a choice of mashed potatoes and gravy or au gratin potatoes with our prime rib plated option. Which as a guest would you prefer? I am a potato fanatic so I'm having troubles deciding one over the other LOL

Au gratin hands down...mashed potatoes are simple and everyone always does that. I think au gratin will complement the prime rib nicely and also stand out and not to mention they are delicious 😋

Okay, are the mashed potatoes good with or without gravy or do they need gravy to make them work?

If they're good without I'd say mashed, they're more likely to be something someone likes. If they're kind of plain then go with au gratin.

Although I absolutely LOVE Au Gratin, I would say that Mashed Potatoes goes better with prime rib in my opinion.

I don't like gravy on my potatoes, so I would go with au gratin - unless you're going to give the option of gravy-less potatoes, in which case mashed all the way

I also love au gratin, and wouldn’t necessarily want gravy on my mashed, but I WOULD want that gravy for my prime rib, so I think the mashed gets my vote here! Fellow potato fanatic 🤣

I don't eat potatoes (just a texture thing) but, I asked my FH and he said he'd prefer au gratin with prime rib.

This is a good point too, I love good au gratin, but bad au gratin can be bad. Bad mashed potatoes are still pretty good, haha

100% au gratin. I can make my own mashed potatoes and so can most people, everyone seems to have a family recipe that they love and will always prefer. And in general when I go to catered events I like food that I can't or won't make myself. Au gratin potatoes are a pain, so I won't make them myself, so I see them as a treat.

Out of curiosity, are there other potato options? Herb roasted for example? That also goes well with prime rib.

Au Gratin. For one thing, cheese. Another, mashed potatoes is basic. If you're going to be fancy with prime rib, gotta go with the upscale side!

I personally would go au gratin. It's more celebratory to me than mashed potato.
