When did you start asking for Addresses?

MrsPope, on September 10, 2014 at 12:59 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

Our wedding date is 9/26/15.

Engagement pictures 9/21/14

We are getting picture magnets for the STD's, and would like to mail those probably the beginning of November maybe middle of.

When should I start getting addresses? I know this can be a long process for 100 people.

I would start now. It will save you time and stress later. Since you're sending your STD's out about a year before the wedding, make sure to follow up with anyone whose address may have changed before you send out wedding invitations.

Our original wedding date was April 11, 2015 and we switched it to May 22, 2015. We started getting addresses last month. Once you ask they will let you know if they are in the process of moving and can possibly give you an accurate address. I agree with Lindsay start now!

I would start now. Bit of advice tho, before you ask, be 100% sure you want them coming to the wedding. If you ask for an address, and they know you are engaged, they will know it's for wedding invites and such. Them if you change your mind or have to cut the guest list, they will not be happy when they never receive anything. This happened with us and I still hear about it.

Yes. A long process. Start now. As soon as you are absolutely sure you're going to send them an invite. I started about 5 months before and still didn't have all of them when I began writing them out and mailing them. It's a headache.

My wedding is in March, and I started collecting them a few months ago. I FB messaged a bunch of cousins to the theirs and any siblings not on FB. Worked out pretty well, I have most of the ones I need now. I agree about being careful whom you ask. I got a few addresses that I wish I would not have asked for. But I doubt they will come anyways.

    When? Not soon enough!

I started right after we got engaged in May. Invites go out at the end of the month and I still am missing a bunch on FH's side of the invite list. He's getting them, slowly... I'm starting next week to address the invites and would really like to do them all at the same time! They need to go out at the end of the month.

Date twin!!! I have already gotten most of my addresses but have done so because all our family lives 3 hours away and have done it when we went to visit or through facebook. It's not to early to start getting them all together

Our date is 6/20/15 and we are getting the last of our addresses now. I used the WW guest list and exported it into Excel. From there, I color coded who was FIL's responsibility, who was my family's responsibility, and who was our responsibility. My family actually got there's done a lot faster than I expected. I gave them a deadline of my birthday which is 10/17. We will probably send our STDs between halloween and thanksgiving.

Pulling teeth and trying to get the FH's family addresses now. I have everyone elses (I do holiday cards every year so I've been slowly amassing addresses)

I started immediately and still had addresses I was hunting down when I needed them. The sooner the better, IMO.

I don't think there is a such thing as starting too early - however, as MichiganBride104 said, be mindful of who you ask for their address...make sure you will definitely be inviting them!

I split the task up of getting addresses between me, my mom, and FH's mom. The mom's were responsible for getting me all of the family/family friend's addresses, and it was my responsibility to get all of our friend's addresses. Even with splitting this up, it took several months for me to be able to say that we had all of them (and we only invited like 85 people)!

    Good luck!

Start now. I used switchboard.com to find a lot of ours, which saved time calling/texting/e-mailing friends and family.

Like the other ladies said start now. There are a few people we are inviting that we didn't get their addresses in time to send them Save the Dates, and by we I mean FH didn't get them for his college buddies,

We started getting addresses 1 year out. I wish I would have just asked my mom for all of the addresses in the beginning! I was unaware that she had a LOT that I ended up getting from other family, so if anything happens I can't just "not" invite them after I asked for addresses.

41 days later and only half responded with addresses by the way!

I started asking before summer started....I also used whitepages.com for the people that I kinda knew where they lived but wasn't exact.

Ask as soon as you can...you could always use the ones you have early for holiday cards if your into that sort of thing.

In Texas, you can search the property records online by a person's name to find their address. Yes, it is a bit creepy, but it is easier to do than rely on someone to get back to you.

White pages wouldn't help us any, I only know of ONE person on my guest list that has a home phone! And that is Fw's Grandfather and we already have his number! Cell phones are just the norm these days here. That doesn't mean you shouldn't check, but I thought I'd bring that up. Even when my family had home phones they paid EXTRA to NOT have the # listed! They are just a bunch of paranoid people...lol
