What was the very first planning decision you made? Was it deciding on the budget? Finding the perfect venue? Creating the guest list? What was first? For more on planning basics, check out these discussions: What are your venue “must haves” ? and What are your wedding colors ?

Our color palette. And then our first dance song, but I think we both knew what it was going to be LONG before we started planning lol. Then I went hardcore into searching for a venue.

Our venue. I have known for years where I wanted to get married, but it was also important that my FH loved it as much as I did (and that I still even liked it). Thankfully when we looked at it, he loved it more than he anticipated (he kept saying it wasn't important to him).

That also gave us our date as they didn't have much availability (only one date that fit into our ideal time frame, even 16 months out!)

Budget had already been determined. So the first decision we made was our date. From there everything else fell into place. We looked at four different reception venues since we knew we'd have a church wedding and we went with the venue that offered the best value(venues are stressful because there's so much money going out) After booking I did more "fluffy" things like dress shopping and cake tasting and laid low for a few months.

The venue was first! Can’t lock in other venues if the date isn’t locked in with the venue

For me, it was finding the perfect venue! It absolutely had to have an industrial feel and be under $2000 for the reception and ceremony reservation fee.

Photographer was our first decision. We had to make sure our photographer was available before picking a date & venue.

Ours was a date; FH wanted to get married the same day as his grandparents. Since that was a Tuesday, he was willing to compromise with me and have the wedding ceremony and reception the following Saturday.

Our first wedding planning decision was agreeing on a date. I really wanted to do a winter/New Years wedding and my FH wanted summer so we agreed on spring

We knew our song before we got engaged, technically. He has me listen to it after only maybe 2-3 months of dating and said, “this is your song now” and then we decided over time that it was and would always be, “our song”

I knew I wanted a destination wedding and it was between Greece (my husband-to-be is half Greek) or Hawaii (because I myself am an islander) because it is a very small, family-only (close-friends) wedding. I ended up choosing Hawaii because Greece was too far for my brother and his family with young kids, and it is impossible to have a small wedding with Greeks around. Smiley laugh
