What things are you using?

Brittnee, on August 18, 2020 at 11:49 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 27
As our wedding date is quickly approaching, I’m still searching for special pieces. What are you using for your something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue? I gather that the dress will be the something new, and for the blue, I had my new name monogrammed in blue on a silk sash that will be sewed in on the bottom of my dress. I’m still struggling with the old and the borrowed.

My something old is a strand of pearls to wear the day of. My something new would be my dress. My something borrowed while not on me, but is my cake topper. I'm borrowing my parents cake topper that my grandma made for them. My something blue is my garter belt, it's a Michigan Wolverines garter belt. My FH is big Michigan fan so that's for him. And it will be the first and only time I ever wear anything Michigan.

My old will be a bracelet I got from my FH just before he proposed - it's multi gemstone bracelets of flowers. My something new / blue is my jewelry set my mom just purchased me with blue topaz to match the bracelet and my FH's suit.

I'm still working on the something borrowed, initially my plan was to borrow some vintage jewelry from my mom's collection... I may still go that route.

Ask family relatives, you'd be surprised what they offer, especially knowing you'd like to use it on your wedding day. The easiest is jewelry from a family relative! Good luck!

I sent my aunt (dads sister) and my FSIL each a message asking if there was anything that was passed down that I could use. I’m also thinking of asking my moms sister if I could use my late granny’s ring. I just wasn’t sure if I was going to want to wear a lot of jewelry, but I’ll see what they have to offer and go from there.

I didn't want a lot of jewelry either. But I did wear a pearl necklace, a broach on the inside of my dress and an ankle bracelet that my mom wears. So I was able to honor a lot of olds and borrowed things and included those family members putting them on and including photographs but only one could be seen. Hope that helps!

Something Old: my grandma's lace hanky that she carried at her wedding

    Something New: my dress

    Something borrowed: my sister's earrings

Something blue: I have two options for this. I have a little garter I could wear that is blue, or I am thinking of having part of one of my dad's ties sewn into the lining of my dress. He passed away recently, so I'm leaning towards this one.

I combined a couple. My borrowed/blue was a blue dinosaur pendant. When my SIL and brother got married she didn't have a blue, so I ran to a shop and found a blue stegasaurus necklace and whip stitched it to her skirt lining. I borrowed that from her and had it sewn into my skirt. Old/silver sixpence in my shoe: my stepdad bought me a silver sixpence from Queen Victoria's reign in England (1860s). I walked down the aisle with it in my shoe. I had it in there the whole time, lol. New was basically everything else. What things are you using? 1

    New: dress and most jewelry
Old: stud earrings for my second holes
    Blue: shoes
I have no idea about the “borrowed” item. My mom and I looked through her jewelry already and ruled that out. We shall see. If it doesn’t work out, oh well! It’s just for fun anyway lol
