What should we offfer instead of a shot during the Dollar Dance.

Abby, on January 23, 2011 at 11:47 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

A lot of our friends/family do not drink alcohol so I need to offer something in addition to jello shots. What do you think? We are having our wedding cake for desert so we can't use that.

How about mini candy bars or special little boxes of candy?

I all of 15 years of photographing weddings, I've never seen anything offered with the Dollar Dance. Do tell what you have in mind, I'm curious.

I have heard of ppl offering alcohol for an exchange of their money/dance. Lets say you dance with the bride and you give her $1, they groom would give you a shot of vodka.. (as an example.)

Its probably a regional thing, but I know around here, a shot of some kind (usually jell-o) is offered to participants who are of age when they pay their dollar to dance with the bride or groom. Whoever is collecting the money hands out the shots. When kids go up to dance with the bride or groom they usually just don't get anything, but I think offering people the choice of a chocolate (maybe a hershey kiss) or a shot would be a great idea Smiley smile

I know the whole dollar dance thing is highly regional in all its variations, but I've never seen a shot offered by the couple.

@Celia....Agreed...It is def very regional. I also think it is based on nationalities. Northeast coast Italians do not do dollar dances or jello shots.

I had never heard of anyone offering jello shots for the dollar dance! Man, weddings here would ahve been so much funner if they did! LOL

Maybe a cute "receipt" saying thanks with a chocolate kiss? Smiley smile

Yes dragonfly, in this region also it is traditional for guests to pay their dollar to the maid/matron of honor and the best man gives the guest a shot in exchange for their money before they dance with the bride. Candy/kisses is a great idea. Thanks guys!

Maybe it's just me- but jell-o shots have no place at a wedding. Those are better held onto for frat parties- or the bach parties.

I had never heard of the dollar dance until this site- and still don't like the idea. But if you are going to do it, a "kiss from the bride" is appropriate.

Agreed! I've never heard of that! I thought it was just a 'money dance' ...pay some amount of money for a dance, with either the bride or the groom!

women pay money for a dance with the groom and men pay money for a dance with the bride!

I thought guests were offered a choice of a dance or a shot for their $$?

At the weddings I've been to the dollars are pinned to the bride and groom there is no one collecting the money ... We've never offered a drink for the dance the money is in "exchange" (if you will) for the dance. Sounds like a fun tradition thou...
