What sacrifices have you made to save for your wedding?

Maria, on May 29, 2017 at 1:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 25

Sacrifices could be a strong word. Comic Con is in Philly next week and I was so close to buying some tickets and photo ops with some of the cast members of Boy Meets World and Riverdale. I decided against it because I'd rather put that money towards the wedding. FH and I also used to go to restaurants once a week and we've now cut back to monthly. There's some great restaurants around Philly. We've also started cooking our own brunch every Sunday and it's become a romantic tradition. What adjustments have you made to save for the big day?

We were going to do a small wedding, and cut back our honeymoon, but we have since decided to essentially elope at the same place we were planning to marry at, and have a nicer honeymoon.

As for saving, I'm putting back roughly half my monthly pay, and DF is putting back a chunk of his to pay for everything.

We're skipping the honeymoon and staying in town after the wedding.

I was going to buy a car last year also we are saving any extra we have outside of the bills and such that are required. Limited extras if any. I'm also lucky my father is pitching in a good chunk. I also retained my tax return for anything we could put down payments on.

    I looooooooooooove Boy Meets World!!!!!!!!

I would not have been able to make that sacrifice Smiley tongue

One sacrifice I did make was not going with a nicer/bigger venue. In fact, we went with the ugliest & cheapest venue so we could afford a top-rated decorator! No regrets! (yet)

During wedding planning, we started to question everything to determine what we really wanted vs foregoing things that won’t affect the guests. Our financial situation changed recently due to health so we sold our camper/got rid of our seasonal site & will be using our tent instead. FH is passing on his annual music festival/camping trip & we’ve went to cash for spending/keeping things in check.

ETA Also took a hard look at what we were spending on internet/cable & cut back (also found out that we were being charged for things we didn't sign up for/got a refund).

@ALC Yay! I'm glad I'm not the only one. We are skipping the honeymoon too. Probably do a mini-moon in Vegas and see shows/go out to nice dinners. FH wants to go to Hawaii but it's so darn expensive.

I skipped seeing the Weeknd Smiley sad it was tough. I also skipped out on some trip invitations. Skipped out on doing some expensive races.

FH skipped out on buying a new car

Basically learned about things I really need vs things I buy just to buy. I used to go shopping for new clothes for every little vacation/event, but now I only go for the essentials like new running shoes soI don't injure myself. Pretty minor. Ill probably keep it up after the wedding

We haven't actually cut back on anything just yet since we haven't had to so far but that might change when we start booking more vendors and have more to pay off!

Tattoos, I want so many but they are very spendy so FH and I both said we would wait to get any more until after the wedding

Personally, we are planning on doing a small backyard wedding and having spending the majority of our budget on an expensive all inclusive photographer / videographer and a well known local dj. But our budget is way small because we already have children, a home, bills, and just day to day life we can't pull money from so our budget is quite small but I think that as long as you keep your personal priorities in mind you'll be fine just don't stress too much it's supposed to be one of the greatest days of your life, it will all come together. Smiley smile

Skipping buying tickets for the Chris Stapleton concert in October. I really really wanted to buy tickets, but I'll just save my $120.

I bought tickets to Hamilton on a whim last year and thought if I got a chance to see it, that would be great, and if not, I could always sell. That was before our engagement, and now that our wedding is planned for 5 days after the show would have been, I'm definitely selling the tickets to put towards the wedding. It's a wrench because I've wanted to see the show for a long time, but this is better.

I've stopped buying clothes and have tried to minimilaze extra spending as much as possible. Currently we are working on eating at restaurants less, but we struggle with that because there are so many new restaurants popping up that we want to try.

@Jeanette, yeah, we live in NYC, so we will probably play tourists that week and do some things we wouldn't do ordinarily.

We only go out to dinner on payday weekend and it is Groupon inspired. I work 16 hours OT a pay right now. I split the OT between wedding budget and furniture for the new house

In order to save for our Antarctica trip we will probably cut back a bit on some spending and put saving into overdrive. Eat out even less than we do etc.

I used to get monthly massages with my best friend and then go out to dinner.. I have decided to put that money towards a videographer instead! And I put myself in LuLa jail because my LuLaRoe habit was getting insane!

I cut back my spending but that was before we got engaged. FH is a much better saver than me, so I aligned my spending habits to his. Our cuts have more to do with us getting a house than having a wedding. I still get my nails done and we still go out to eat, but I don't eat out as much by myself and there are no more weekly trips to the mall

We put off buying me a better car, his graphics card, his remote start to his car, and a brand new bed. We splurged on an AC unit, though, as that was something we actually needed.
