What percentage of your budget does your venue cost?

Anonymous, on January 22, 2011 at 10:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 25

Hi ladies,

The FH and I went to visit our first potential venue this afternoon, and *loved* it, but I'm a little wary at the price tag. I know there are tons of budget sheets about there, but I wanted to get feedback from your experiences --- of your total budget, what percentage of the cost did your venue take up?

With tax and gratuity and dinner and open bar, its $11,000. 44% of my budget. Never thought about it that way.

We're using the ceremony site at our venue which is extra... so the site comes to $8,500... about 1/5 of the budget

With catering and open bar is comes to about half the budget.

Our venue was about 70% of the budget, but it comes with Ceremony site, reception site, food (for 140ppl), both cakes, minister, DJ, Bar tender, wedding planner, choc fountain(my fav), centerpieces, ceremony decorations, linens, china, cake service, up lighting, 5 hours of time, constable, and tax/gratuity for $9,995.

Also the venue doesn't have a liquor license and in the state of TX that means I can bring my own liquor in and serve an "open bar" so alcohol will run me about $400 tops.

Wow, that's realllllly all-inclusive! I've yet to find a venue in our area that includes so much. We definitely are seeking out venues that will allow us to provide the alcohol. Costco has some great wine/beer at great bulk prices! Smiley smile

Check out your state law... I know in MA you are not allowed to bring your own... its a state thing not a venue thing (not always anyway).

For the ceremony venue it was technically ZERO ;-) It was free will donation. We lucked the hell out. Ended up donated 200 to the historical society who ran the venue.

Our is about 50% of the budget but that is assuming that all people come that are invited plus gratuity.

My reception venue (with food and drinks included) is probably 60 - 70 percent of my budget, because that was the thing we knew we wanted to focus on....and because I'm getting several other things for free or a very reduced rate (photographer, minister, seamstress, ceremony music, etc).

My venue includes food, open bar, linens, and centerpieces. We are also having our ceremony there. It will be approximately 60% of our budget.....Yikes!

My venue will cost me $800 for 8 hours. Come with chairs, tables, and plain white linens. So that is $800 of my $7500 budget.

It really depends on the guest list too :-) My guest list is 75; sit down dinner, 5 hour reception, 4 hour open bar, service, set up/clean up, cake cutting, white linens is 3000; (budget around 7500) is 40%.

Our budget is 10k and our venue is 5100$. With it is our ceremony, reception, chairs for outside (gazebo wedding) chair and table covered (customized) booze, a memory brick, officiant, music for the ceremony and i think that's it. I think we did pretty good with the price because other than food, the big things are taken care of, ceremony site, reception site, and booze.

I have read in several magazines that the average for the venue is 44% of the total budget.

Our's is 15K and we're paying $1000 for the reception/ceremony hall. That's not including catering or cake or anything like that. Plus, it's already mostly decorated (just need our own personal touches) so we don't have to worry too much about buying a crap-ton of decorations. So that's like, what, 10%? That's just for the venue though.
