What music are you playing during dinner?

Savanah, on February 9, 2017 at 9:00 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

First of all sorry for all of the questions the last few days, but I'm back in the mood to get shit done. I've been working on my music and I need background music during dinner. I can't stand elevator sounding music or really old, old, music that my grandparents listened to with their parents. (A friend had that and I'm still not over it)

If I could play blink 182 during dinner I would. But since it would probably be frowned upon can you give me some ideas as to what your playing?

I am going to ask the DJ to play classic country. It is the only kind of music FH likes so I want to incorporate it for himSmiley smile so definitely not elevator music!

@CathyB, we are doing the same!

@SavannahW I think it's whatever you perfer. Something soft is good, obviously you won't be blaring music while people eat. I would bet there's a tab on here that has songs suggestions for cocktail hour/dinner.

I've heard of people playing guests wedding songs during dinner - my sister said it was super cute and she loved it at a wedding she went to as a guest.

I'm going to let the DJ handle it - they've been amazing helping us plan things - we've a little overwhelmed with everything in life - so I'm trying to avoid decisions/worrying about things the professionals are going to be great at handling.

My DJ played country. But really, I was so busy I don't remember one song that stuck out to me! I kind of let my DJ just do whatever and it worked.

We're doing a mix of old time Motown era jams (Temptations, Patti La Belle, Marvin Gaye), Bruno Mars, a few soft Beyonce songs, etc. That probably wasn't much help but my entire playlist will be background music so thought I'd share. My list is all over the place so it doesn't fit any particular genre but I wouldn't consider it to be elevator music either.

Go to YouTube and check out Vitamin String Quartet. They do Blink-182 songs. You are welcome.

During dinner I plan to ask the DJ to play things like Sinatra, Dean Martin, and similar. I am also going to have them sneak in 3-4 songs by Vitamin String Quartet. FH has picked their version of Thrift Shop. I am going to pick either a Weezer Song or Blink-182, and I'll let the DJ pick out others.

During dinner we're doing traditional Arabic and Turkish music--we're trying to recreate Istanbul in the middle of Oklahoma City, so it works for us.

I'm seriously considering giving my dj a playlist I have called "songs to sing in the shower" and just go from there.

Ask your DJ to play your favorite music that isn't easy to dance to. There's lots of songs we love that are in between the slow dancing and fun dancing (for lack of a better word?) tempo so we're using dinner time to play them

We did rock from the 60's and 70's. Lots of Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.

I let my DJ handle it. I could not tell you what was played. It's background music and most people were chatting over dinner.

I second vitamin string quartet! Also look into Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox.

Thanks! I know a few have said that that your letting the dj handle it but I'm too much of a control freak lol. I'm going to give his guidance as to what I like/don't like but I'm loving the suggestions from people!
