What is a normal deposit for a photographer??

Tach, on August 9, 2011 at 3:08 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

The topic pretty much says it all. I'm just starting to look at photographers and I'm wondering how much is the norm to have to put down. Did you guys have a set amount or a percentage??

Ours only had us put 20% down ($500). Seems odd in comparison.

Some people require 50% of whatever package you have. Out total photography is $1,800 but we only had to put down a deposit of $450.

Total was $750 - we put down $300, as per the photographer's request.

WOW....I guess there is some sort of differences in this. I'm shocked at how low some of the photography is. I guess it's a regional thing. My photography cost 3,000.

I request a $200 deposit regardless of the package the client goes with. I also have my basic starting package set at $650. I am a professional photographer but I aim more towards clients who are on a tighter budget as there are a good amount of those in my area. (Sort of a semi response to the post about not being professional if charging less than $1000) It really depends on the area you work in. Some photographers might be in an area that has more money overall while some might not be.

I am a wedding photographer based in the San Francisco Bay area and I ask for a 50% deposit.

This amount can be adjusted a bit depending on the budget of the wedding and other factors.
