What hand are you wearing your engagement ring

Ashlee, on June 30, 2014 at 10:25 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

The day of the wedding? My something borrowed is my gmoms e-ring and i was going to wear that on my right hand, and usually you are supposed to wear your e-ring on your right hand. Anyone else using a e-ring as something borrowed if so how are your wearing both rings the day of?

I'll be wearing my e-ring on my right hand.

You could always have your something borrowed tied to your bouquet as a dangle, or you could just wear them both on the right hand until the ceremony is over Smiley smile I've also heard of brides having their MOH wear their e-ring until the ceremony is over as well.

I wore my engagement ring on my left ring finger. I honestly had no clue you were supposed to wear it on your right hand - I've never seen that before in any of the weddings I've been to.

You could wear it on your left. I don't think there is a right or wrong way to do it.

The reason for putting your engagement ring on your right hand the day of the wedding is because your wedding band is supposed to be closest to your heart, so it goes on first. Another way of doing it is leaving your e-ring on your left and just switching them after the ceremony.

The tradition is to wear your engagement ring on your right hand, then after the ceremony put the engagement ring back on your left hand (your wedding band is supposed to be on the inside so it's closer to your heart). In a perfect world, that's a great tradition. However:

    1. Grooms have an uncanny habit of getting nervous and putting your wedding band on whichever hand already has an engagement ring on it - which causes awkwardness at the ceremony while you point out the correct finger.

    2. Nerves/excitement can make your hands swell up. Since your right hand is often larger than your left, you may have to deal with your engagement ring getting stuck.

So I would just leave your e-ring on your left hand, have your groom put your wedding band on top of it, and then swap them after the ceremony.

I had know clue about this. I planned on going down the aisle bare handed and then putting my engagement ring back on after the ceremony.

I wear my mom's wedding/engagement set on my right hand - have worn it every day since she died. I wasn't going to change that for the wedding.

I honestly can't remember what I did. I think I just held my engagement ring, or I just took it off before he put the band on.

I put my e-ring on my right hand before the ceremony and then after put it back on my left hand, above my wedding band after the ceremony.

As to Shannon's point about your hands swelling up. Our minister told us, just to put the ring on about halfway down the finger during the ceremony. This would of course avoid the issue of swelling, nerves or anything like that.

I'll probably just leave it on my left hand, since my right finger is a lot bigger than my left and I can't always get my e-ring onto it.

I'm going to wear mine on my right or might even just slide it onto my pinkie finger during the exchange of the rings.

Also: make sure you and your groom put a little lotion on your hands before the ceremony starts to make putting on the rings a little easier!

I'm planning to just wear my engagement ring as normal, then switch it after the ceremony.

You could maybe wear the 'something borrowed' as a necklace?

Never thought about that!! Now that I think about it though, I will probably wear my ering on my right hand during the ceremony until the part my FH puts the wedding band on my left hand that way it's nice to see my wedding band officially on my finger for the both of us. Then afterwards, I will put my Ering back on my left hand because they go really well together and it will be nice for the pictures.

Both my wedding band and my ering will be in the ring box, and FH will put them on my finger together.

I had my MOH hold my e-ring until after the ceremony and got it from her right when the ceremony was over. I also have 2 wedding bands though and wanted my e-ring to sit between the two and wanted both bands exchanged during the ceremony.

My mother surprised me my great grandmother's wedding set to wear, so I wore that on my right hand. I just wore my e-ring as normal and switched the bands later that night. Not a biggie.
