What food are you guys having?

Tina, on July 1, 2019 at 5:57 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 48

Hi guys. My day is getting closer. LOL. And the closer it gets the more I think about every little thing and second guess myself. I am sort of worried I will not have enough food. I watch 4 wedding religiously and some brides have so much food it seems wasteful and others seem like they have 5 items on the buffet and the cake and that is it. What all are you doing? I am having a 5 hour ceremony all in the same place. Thank you =)

I had way too much food but everyone actually takes it to go aha so didn't really go to waste at least. I had a ten course meal served family style

I am having way too much food lol, but that is included in my venue. We are having a cocktail hour with 8 passed hor dourves, a cheese/fruit/crudites display, a meat carving station, and 2 other hot appetizers. Then for the reception, we have a plated dinner of an appetizer, salad, and entree. Then for dessert we will have cake and some other desserts. Note, I am in NJ and while this is normal here, I have learned it is excessive elsewhere in the country. I wouldn't base your food off of TV shows. I would base it more off of local weddings you have gone to, as that is what your guests will be more familiar with and more expectant of.

We have two passed hors d’oeuvres with beer and wine for the cocktail hour. Buffet will be three entrees, four sides (including salad), rolls, vegan entree for certain guests, lemonade, water, sweet and unsweet tea, cheerwine, and beer and wine still available.

During cocktail hour we are having three passed hors d'oeuvres. Prior to the buffet opening, we are having a salad course. Buffet includes a carving station with turkey and prime rib, a pasta station with penne noddles and tortellini and a choice of either vodka sauce or alfredo, mashed potatoes, roasted veggies, and rolls with butter. We are also doing a late night snack which is a nacho station. Dessert is a candy bar and wedding cake. We have one person who is gluten free so they are setting aside gluten free pasta for her. We have 1 vegan and 1 vegetarian and they are getting risotto with grilled veggies.

Yours sounds amazing as well. I'm not going to base it off of TV.. I've just not been to alot of weddings and I only remember eating at one and the food was bland as bland could be with limited options. I would love to have your kind of a spread

We are having a veggie and fruit bar for the cocktail hour, a pizza bar for the main course form the restaurant we had our first date, and donuts in place of cake. Simple, local, and meaningful to us.

For our DW, we did a small appetizer table that worked out fine. Cheeses, meats, bread & fruit for only about 8 of 15 guests (cost was per person). Totally fine. We had a family-style dinner of grilled salmon, braised ribs, bread, and three side dishes—plenty of food and leftovers for two the next day. 👍

At our local reception we had a salad course and one entree (pasta or steak—that steak was big!). Dessert table too. Plenty of food even though just two plated courses.

Open bar at both events (beer & wine only at reception due to local laws).

We have lighter apps, and then buffet style dinner including salad, bread, roasted potatoes, chicken, whitefish, and then veggie dish. And we are doing open beer and wine. No liquor.

    Hi Tina!

My fiancé and I are providing lunch and having a pasta buffet with bread, a salad, and 2 different types of pasta. We went to a wedding recently with plates of appetizers with bbq nachos and cheese handed to us followed by a large buffet with 3 entrees and 4 sides, followed by street tacos after about an hour or so. I thought it was way too much, but I guess it just depends on what your budget is!
