What do you think of a pantry shower ?

FutureMrsHodges, on December 23, 2011 at 2:16 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

For those that haven't heard of it!

Pantry shower is a great opportunity for friends and family to get together and help the bride-to-be equip her new kitchen with necessities and splurges!

The premise behind the shower is exactly what you think. Guests will gift the bride with kitchen and pantry staples, like flour, sugar, salt, pepper, rice, Bisquick… just about any dry, packaged or canned item is fair game! The key is you will be asking the guests to present these in a unique or creative fashion. Include a blank recipe card in each invitation, and instruct invitees to write their favorite recipe and the bride’s gift will be associated with the pantry ingredient they have given as a gift, with what is needed to make the recipe! Remind guests to wrap creatively. By the end of the shower, your bride should have loads of pantry staples and recipes for her new kitchen, without ever having to step foot in a grocery store!

I think it's a great idea for those just starting out on their own! For those of us who've been on our own for a while, it'd just double everything we already have.

I had a shower where everyone brought a recipe & a spice in that recipe which I thought was really cute. I LOVE having lots of new recipes, but what am I going to do with the 7 (yes, SEVEN) jars of cinnamon I got?!? Lol. Smiley smile

Love a Pantry shower! A poem for the invite???

Remember when a bride is new

She often forgets to salt the stew

A pantry is so hard to fill

We thought we'd help her if you will

Some dish soap, a can of soup

    Cookies from your scout group.

    Ketchup, mustard, sugar, flour

Soy sauce or some Sweet and Sour.

    Spices, detergents, and gadgets galore,

You have several dozen, But Bride could use more.

If you could bring just some of these,

Our bride to be You sure would please.

    Erin W. wrote this one.

    Bride is getting married!

    It shouldn’t be long now,

until two empty shelves become one

and they’ll definitely need some help

Let’s assist and bring some food items

that can sit for awhile on the shelf,

    and some trusty, easy recipes

that you like and have made yourself

They’ll need flour, sugar and baking goods

    To make some yummy treats

And spices, foil and storage bags

    To saute their scrumptious meats

    They’ll need condiments and dressings

    To liven up their plates

And canned goods, pasta and cereal

To fill their empty shelf space

    They’ll need hardy cleaning supplies

and a couple mops and brooms

Since they’re bound to make a cooking mess

    And destroy the entire room

Let’s get them off to the right start

    And fill that pantry high

So they can make all sorts of foods

And eat like kings every night

Oh I've been to one of these - they are a blast! Particularly if you include a request for a special recipe from each guest. If you do, then make sure you have a copier handy so everyone can leave with a "Cook Book" of the compilations as their favor.

My aunt and grandmother threw my husband and I a pantry shower, back in 1981. It was so cool, we had enough spices, canned goods, paper products and kitchen tools to stock our kitchen. Which was a very good thing, considering neither of us had lived on our own before.

They're commonly called kitchen showers. Go for it! If you and/or fiance love to cook/bake/entertain, it seems like a perfect theme.

I went to a shower where the guests were asked to provide two recipes (breakfast, lunch, or dinner) and a dessert they're known for, with the ingredients. The hostess requested that the recipes be emailed to her. When we arrived, she gave us a lined 3 x 5 card and asked for handwritten words of wisdom/Scripture and for us to sign the card. When the bride opened our gift, the hostess said what our recipe was read our words of wisdom/Scripture. I definitely made a mental note for when our daughter ties the knot.
