I'd like to get kind of a survey of what people give as presents for weddings: cash or a physical gift. I'd like to get kind of a survey of what people give as presents for weddings: cash or a physical gift. I'm from the South, and I don't know whether it is just my region, but until WW I had never heard or thought of giving money for a wedding, only physical presents. If you post, PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR LOCATION!! I want to know if it is semi-location dependent.

ETA: that moment when you realize that your personal experience was different from the majority of people on WW...... the majority opinion here seems cash/check/money! I would have never known!

Money is easier, but if it was a close friend I'd like to pick something out for them (PNW)

Seattle, always cash. I've tried the registry route a few times, but people register waaaay to early for stuff. By the time you hit up the stores or even online, stuff is discontinued or not in stock.

South Carolina, I usually give a gift card. I don't bring actual gifts to the wedding, too much hassle for me lol

I give gifts strictly for the bridal shower. I give cards with cash at the wedding. Exceptions being my closest friends in which I'd also likely include a small personal gift for the day of the wedding. (Earrings, a little letter, something very small)

    Upstate New York!

I'm in NJ and most people I know give money, but I've done both. For family, I've given money. For friends, I've given gifts. The main reason is because I give family members $200-300, but with my friends I bought a bunch of items off their registry (11 to be exact) for around $100.

Western MA, and while I have never attended a wedding in my adult life, I can say that out of 85 guests at our wedding we received one physical gift. The rest was cards with money.

Mid west. For close friends, I like to do personalized items. I did a personalized platter tray recently. Being on the younger side of my friends I don't want them to know how much I spent. Putting money in a card would've been cheaper than the platter tray. If you know their style, I suggest personalized items because those don't always get to go on registries. I love the ones I got. Bridal showers I usually do registry gifts. Weddings for non close friends, I would give money.

Chicago land area- i would say its a mix of both cash and gifts. Usually if someone is closer to the couple they give a gift but coworkers tend to give cash from my experience.
