I have a Grammy & a Poppy on my dad's side and my although they both have passed, on my mother's side I had a Grandma and a Pap. I also still have one Great Grandma (her 90th birthday is in a week!) and she's a Grandma Helen.

I called my mother's mother "mom" and my father's by her first name, it's how everyone in the house referred to them. All my cousins call my mother's mother "mom" as with all my cousins on dad side they all call my father's by her first name.

It's natural for children to refer to their grandparents as whatever they hear others call them so it'll be different for everyone.

In my experience, what you call your grandmother is a very personal decision that normally the eldest grandchild decides when s/he attempts to pronounce the word "grandmother" before his/her diction is totally developed. In my family of origin, my father's parents were grandmother and grandfather, but my mother's parents had names given them by grandchildren. For my children, my parents were grandmother and grandfather, but their father's parents had names given them by grandchildren.

I have a Grandma and Grandpa, then a Grandma Jeany and Grandpa Curly (who is in heaven now)....My Grandpa Curly's name was actually James, but for what ever reason he decided that the grandchildren would call him Grandpa Curly- it stuck, and it is weird to think of it any other way....Same with my Grandma Jeany, but her actual name is Jean.

I call my Grandma, Momma. Apparently when I was little and learning to talk I could never say Grandma. And Momma just stuck

On my dads side mine were just gramma and grampa. My moms mom was Nana. My kids call DH's parents gramma and grampa and my parents granny and grampa. My first daughter used to call my mom Nonnie (which my mom loved) but for some reason when she was about 7 changed it to gramma, then granny. When we are referring to the grandparents to our kids we say Gramma Last name and Grampa Last name. Otherwise with all of them - 2 great-grandparents, 3 grandparents and 3 step grandparents - it gets confusing.

Mommom. As the oldest cousin, when I was about 4, I decided that instead of grandma and grandpa we would call them Mommom & Papa. This stuck for the whole side of the family. They both passed away a long time ago, but that's still how we refer to them.

I grew up with my Grandmother and Granddaddy. Grandmother felt that "Grandma" made her seem old (but Grandmother didn't???) My Mom is Grandma to my girls.
