Publix has some amazing cakes. They were my second choice. I sampled a lot of them at a bridal show and loved them.

I know at least two people that purchased their cakes from Wal Mart and QFC and they were delicious. I actually HAVE considered it, but now I'm considering just getting the cake unfrosted so I can decorate it ;P

I actually seen a really cute wedding cake at a Food City grocery store. I would get it, but my fiance wants to be in charge of the cake, so thats his choice...I am not particular about the cake as long as our wedding colors and theme are incorporated!

The cake for my first wedding came from the local military base. So did the invites. Both were very pretty. I honestly cannot remember the taste at all, except it wasn't bad.

I've seen some gorgeous ones from Walmart and Kroger, and I've heard they are very tasty. I've had sheet cakes and pre-mades from both that we pretty good as well. It's not completely outside the realm of possibility for us, though my cousin does absolutely gorgeous cakes and we may go with that.

I would have considered it, except that NotFroofy is a great baker, and said she would make our wedding cake. And the one she made was delicious!

BIL had their cake from walmart, It was ok..(they didnt pick the best flavor combo) and our second choice was Publix. The only reason our bakery won is because it was the same price but tasted better.

I do know that with Publix, some stores WILL NOT let you deviate from the picture/designs because its not "corporate approved"

We did do a tasting from publix...We picked 3-4 flavor combos and they made us 8" rounds to take home to try, free! (i just told them my spouse was unable to set an appointment to come in) So we invited our family over for a tasting since neither of us are big cake fans

My bestfriend is a cake decorator at Albertsons and so she is making my cake at home. It all depends on the bakery. I would personally want to sit down with the person making my cake not just the one there at the time.

I suggest looking into local bakeries before settling on the grocery store, my cake will cost 2.75 per serving and will be made with mostly organic ingredients the day before the wedding. I don't know how much I would save going to the grocery store, but I love the baker who is making mine and also love that I can special order other cakes from her, such as my FI's birthday cake that I ordered in the same flavors as our wedding cake (it wouldn't have been nearly as meaningful to him if I just ran to the grocery store and picked up a cake).

    Tips to save money:

-Buy a double layer cake instead of a triple- for us (at least) this saved us 50 cents per serving bc it saves a lot of work for the baker.

-Buy round or sheet cakes and find a nice way to display them (check out the cake section at a craft store, print off a 50% off coupon from Michaels or AC Moore before you go), so you pay for regular cakes, not wedding cakes

    -Provide your own decorations

I would have considered it, but our venue included the cake. Otherwise I really don't see anything wrong with it.

Walmart has some amazing wedding cakes - super moist & yummy. If you did a blind taste test you'd never know it came from Wallieworld. I would have no problems getting out cake from there but our venue will be making our cake & there are no wallie worlds in Key West :-p

I'm a big cake eater, so if a cake tastes good, that's all that matter.

    around here, ACME and Shoprite grocery stores make awesome cakes....but I'm not a fan of the tradition cake {4-5 layers going straight up}

but yes, I would consider it if I had to...but I went with a private baker

I agree... if the cake tastes good and looks decent, who cares where it came from! Smiley smile

It doesn't really matter where it comes from as long as it's yummy, and looks good. Some of the wal-mart ones I've seen look better than the ones at a couple bakeries I've been to.

I wouldn't have a problem with it as long as it tastes good. The only reason that I am choosing a private baker is because she uses organic, local ingredients and she is going to do a vegan tier for me since I am a vegan. I don't think Walmart does that.

Have you ever heard of people buying a "fake" cake, I mean one that sits on your cake table or whatever but it is just for decoration. Then your venue is in the back slicing up sheet cakes. People really do that. Ther is nothing wrong with sheet cakes. They do taste just as good as bakery cakes. The only thing that matters is if you and your FH are happy with it.
