I would have NO problem getting our cake from any stores. For us the cake is not the most important part. We haven't decided where we are going for ours yet, but WalMart will be in the running.

I guess it depends on the location. All of the Walmart wedding cake I've tried tastes just like regular cake mix from the box 2 aisle's over. They are pretty though.

We booked our cake through Whole Foods in Raleigh. Everyone raved about it. We did not have a huge cake because we only have 25 people but it sure was beautiful.

People, I am assuming when you say sheet cakes you dont realize that some grocery stores make real wedding cakes. I am guessing alot do.. I didn't realize it until earlier this year when I was at Albertson's and they have the wedding cake book there on the counter.

No, I think most here know that groceries make real wedding cakes. What they are talking about is something that has come in to popularity in recent years. To save money but still have a full, gorgeous cake they will have one made with the bottom tier being real for the cake cutting and the other layers fake. Then after the cutting the cake is taken in the back to be "cut", but in reality they are slicing sheet cakes with the same icing. Sheet cakes are cheaper.

There's no reason at all why you shouldn't look at them with the other bakers. If they turn out to be the best value, go for it! I'm a coupon maven, so I would be all about the rewards points I would get out of it :-)

I would definitelly have considered a grocery store cake if I lived near publix (LOVE their cakes). my biggest question would be whether or not they deliver and set up. If they dont deliver, then I wouldnt have done it.

THough, fake layers or a fake cake really isn't going to be your best bet money wise. Mostly what you pay for when you buy a cake is the time it takes to make it...and even if the cake itself is fake, all the decorating is going to take just as long as a regular cake to decorate, so I doubt it'd be much cheaper.

THe best best for saving money, but still wanting a real cake look, is to just do a pretty (and real) 2 tier cake and then have sheet cake for additional slices.

We are going with our local grocery store. They were about the same price as walmart, but they deliver and set up, so that sealed the deal for me. One less thing I have to worry about.

Of course. We would not even consider anything else.

    Publix makes the best cakes.

I hear walmart has good wedding cakes,

My aunt is making our one tier, then we are doing cupcakes and breaking a cupcake for the cake cutting part, or I would of done walmart, they are good.

Our sons birthday cakes come from Walmart and they are yummy. But we decided to go with one of the top three bakers in our state. It was a splurge I wanted. If we had a smaller budget and needed to cut costs I wouldn't mind thinking about a grocery store cake.

I was highly considering getting my cake from Publix until I recently found out the lady that we always requested is no longer with them. Now I'm debating on what to do

Our local grocery store has a prize winning cake designer working in their bakery, if i was getting married up here, that would be my first choice for getting my cake!

The cake bakers in my area want $4.25-4.75 a serving and that's before they do anything aside from covering the cake in a layer of icing.

We're seriously considering Wal-Mart/Sam's Club and the local Commissary (military). Theirs are about half the price.
