What can you do when you can't wear your ring all day?

Erica, on May 2, 2019 at 1:26 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

Hello everyone Smiley heart

For my first post I figured I'd bring up a topic that's a little sensitive to me. I have degenerative disk disease, fibromyalgia and carpal tunnel ... basically I have joint and muscle issues. I don't own any rings because of it and I only wear light necklaces, the heaver ones will eventually make my neck and head hurt. I've put a lot of thought into what I'd do with an engagement before it actually happened but now that I have one I'm not really sure on what I want to do.

I can wear the ring for most of the day but I have to take it off A LOT. I'd say for about 5-20 min per hour its on another finger or sitting on my desk next to my keyboard at work. I don't feel right not having it with me so I don't what to leave it at home. I was hoping that I'd eventually get used to ache of the ring being on but it's proving difficult.

We were both thinking about getting a chain to match the ring so I can wear it around my neck, or possibly a locket we can keep it in (also a necklace). I figured I'd post here to see if anyone has any suggestions or similar stories Smiley heart

Thank you

Would a silicone ring cause the same kind of pain? I know that they're lighter, it could be a significant difference depending on your ring. Sorry, I'm not familiar with the type of muscle issues you experiencing. If that's not an option, I think a chain to keep your ring on sounds great. I would also make sure to insure your ring, taking it off so often would make me so paranoid!

We insured the ring for exactly that reason! I have an awful memory and I loose things all the time, I would have been to afraid to wear it anywhere without insurance LOL

Its not the weight of the ring its just that its there touching my skin, its kind of hard to explain. Even light necklaces will get to me after a while. Its something about feeling it there that makes me more aware of the pain in my hand and it some how must makes it worse. On a good day I can wear the ring almost all day but on a bad day, when my arms and sholders are angry too I can only wear it for an hour before it has to come off and go on another finger or in the ring case I've gotten into the habit of caring around.

I never knew silicone rings were a thing, you learn something new every day =D

Im very sorry for your troubles!

I think the necklace is a good option but if that will hurt you aswell, it might not be the Best option...

Maybe you would consider getting a ring tattoo?? You could maybe do a temporary one at first to see how that would feel?

Maybe just wear your "real" ring around your neck all the time, and have a silicone ring on your finger. Try Ensorings... they have lots of options, great quality and great customer service.

They do easy, free returns too. I am a size 4.5 and they recommend rounding down if you are a half size so I ordered a size 4... it felt like it was completely cutting off the circulation in my finger lol, so I shipped it back (they supply the return label, and you just seal it in the original package) and in the meantime I also changed my mind and decided I wanted a different color lol, so I exchanged it for a size 5, same style but different color. No hassle at all... I had the new one within a week and I love it Smiley smile

A tiny tattoo on your ring finger is an idea if that's something you're up for. My best friend also has fibromyalgia, so I understand how sensitive your body gets during that time, but she got hers on a day she was feeling good and doesnt regret it.

Maybe a bracelet if it is less troublesome than a necklace?

If a lightweight chain with a locket is comfortable, do it. I do not have a diamond engagement ring. I cannot wear a metal ring working with small electrical things I use, or constantly putting on and off latex gloves. And they bother me playing the flute or violin. When not doing any of this, home, I am always up to my wrists in dirt or farm things. So then FI gave me a simple enamel painted high tech glass band. Pretty, no stone. But gave me diamond earrings. Engagement or wedding rings are not the only love token .

I was going to say the same thing.. I rarely wear my ring. I’m in LE and I wouldn’t want to lose it. Once married I plan on buying a silicone one..

My friend told me to get a Swatch watch and put the ring on it when I can’t wear it and want it to be with me. It’s extremely secure and I know I won’t lose it.

Ring keepers are a type of pendant that let you secure a ring to a necklace without having to take the chain off and on again. That way you can easily swap the finger from your hand to your necklace as needed. Just make sure that your ring isn't very heavy.

I'm going to have to write that down! I think this is exactly what I want to do! I don't want to wear the ring when I can but I want somewhere safe and secure to keep it when I cant. I hope our ring guy as some we can look at when I got in to get it resized =D Smiley heart

Thank you so much for the suggestion!!!

I did not realize this did not post yesterday. My husband bought diamonds separately, then had them set in Diamond ring earrings. A couple of his aunts have always worn them, arthritis since childhood, gave him the idea.Diamond ring earings, with or without the large stone you buy separately, are widely available. . https://diamondland.be/diamond-jewelry/diamond-jewellery/diamond-earrings-in-18k-white-gold-2/
