What are your top/bottom 5 wedding priorities?

Nik_McAwesomepants, on December 6, 2010 at 11:25 AM Posted in Planning 1 55

When I first started planning I got this book on how to have a wedding for $5k (our budget is $10k so I figured I would save double lol, not so much...). One of the first things the book had me do was list the 5 things that are most important to me for my wedding. This helped me put certain things in perspective and not concentrate so much on how much things cost, but how much it was worth to me. I threw in the bottom 5 just for fun :-)

Here's my top 5

1- Food & Alcohol!!

2- DJ

3- Pictures

4- Location(s) with character (no hotel ballrooms)

5- Decor

Bottom 5

1- Flowers

2- Cake

3- Invitations (they're just gonna throw them away anyway)

4- Favors (MOH and I are still going back and forth over this)

5- Videography (if we can afford it, great. If not, I really don't care that much)

What about you ladies? You'll be surprised how much perspective this simple list gives Smiley smile

    Good question:

    I haven't thought much about it ...

    1) Location (it had to be a catholic church and I wanted the reception to be held somewhere where people didn't have to drive)

2)Date (it had to be in October or November)

    3) Food

    4) Alcohol

    5) Photography/Videography

    Bottom Five

    1) my dress (I could care less and really don't feel it is necessary to spend more than 500 on a dress I'm going to wear once and then for a lifetime it'll sit in the back of my closet)

    2) Flowers (really they are far to expensive, so I plan to just do bouquets and boutonnaires, I'm going to DIY the mum planters (using fake flowers)

    3) Invitations (I'm trying to convince my Mom to just let me DIY, because yeah they're gonna be tossed)

    4)Favors

    5) A hotel suite for the night (luckily our pkg comes with one, so I didn't have to worry about it)

I really had to think about this

    Important

1 Venue - has to be my church, and receptin where It can be outside and in (no cookie cutter)

2 - Food - my heart is set on a clam bake

3 - Attire - I really want to wear a Blue gown and i really want my fh in light grey.

4 - Date - I travel for work so want a time I know I will be home for my anniversary

5 - Photos - We want lots, of pics and lots of options

    Unimportant

1 - Cake - we are doing grocery store bought

2 - Limo - we are only getting one because my boss thinks we need one and is paying

3 - Favors - I don't even want them but my aunt is buying them so we will give them out

4 - Flowers - I want some simple lillies for the bouquets but that's it really. Again my aunt and mom think i need more so they are buying more.

5 - Center pieces - I want nice ones and I want a wine theme but what they are is minor to me.

    Here's my top 5

1- Having a Jewish ceremony (we are among the few people we know who paid more for the ceremony--counting things like chuppah, ketubah, glass for breaking, as well as rabbi and synagogue--than we did for the reception)

2- Food (we didn't need it to be high end, but did need it to be plentiful and tasty)

3- Music (one of our first decisions was having a talented professional musician we knew as our reception musician)

4- Location for at-home reception our friends could get to easily

5- Reception decor (to make our low-end reception venue look elegant)

    Bottom 5

1- Flowers (we had only bouquets, bout, and some freeze-dried rose petals; everything else was nonfloral)

2- Alcohol (we ended up with an open bar only because our venue gave it to us for $250 for 60 people for five hours)

3- Pictures (we found a low-cost photographer for the ceremony only, and relied on our photo sharing site for everything else)

    4- Favors (skipped altogether)

    5- Limo (skipped altogether)
