What are those gel ball thingies called that go in the vases???

Brandi ♥'s Chris, on April 28, 2011 at 2:53 PM Posted in Planning 0 24

For my centerpieces I will have some orchids in the water. I remember a post that mentioned these gel thingies that you can drop in the water and they expand to hold the flowers in place. Does anyone know what they are called? I can't remember.

You can get themn at the dollar store or the flea market (all different colors), but they go by different names. I don't know what the official term is. sorry

The name brand is Aqua Beads I think but they have them at the dollar store and most craft stores.

Yeah, aqua beads, water beads, water pearls. The ones at the dollar store work but not as nicely as the Michael's brand.

    Btw, love the inspiration photo.

Thanks ladies. Aqua beads...and they sell them at Michael's?

I just have one more question. Do I put the flowers in and then drop them in? How do they work?

Yes you can get them at Michaels. And you start by adding some of the beads, and then the flowers. You kind of layer them.

Just check out this video Smiley smile

They go by water pearls, aqua gems, liquid marbles, water gems, etc.

I got a few jars of mine at Michaels, a few at The Dollar Store, and some at Joann fabric

I went to a wedding at night and they dropped a light (sorry I don't know where they got it from, but can find out) in the bottom of the vase. It was very elegant!

Those beads are really cool. I plan on using them in my centerpieces. I bought a pack awhile ago just to test them out and you get a lot in one package! Depending on how big your vases are, one pack will probably work for about 3-4 centerpieces!

Saw them once a while ago. My memory may be shaky but I seem to recall that you have to soak them in water for a while (like 15 - 20 minutes) before you use them. I'm sure the instructions will be on the packaging.

Actually, you have to soak them for about 5-6 hours beforehand.
