Is it a must to have a limo or a fancy car?

I wouldn't say its a must. Due to our limited budget, everyones taking their own cars. We might do a little decorating though!

If my ceremony and reception were in separate places we would just drive our own cars Smiley smile but I lucked out and found a venue that I can have both at the same place Smiley smile

I haven't seen any limos at the weddings I've been to over the past few years. Maybe leave it as an "extras" item that you add in if you have more room in your budget down the road.

Our ceremony and reception are at the same place. I was set on not having limos or anything as in we all drive ourselves as I'm trying to keep costs low. FI INSISTS on having a limo for him and his 3 guys. It's stupid and a waste since they'll be getting there early (we're doing a first look and pictures beforehand) and no one will even see the limo. They wanted $300 for a 20 minute trip (pick up/drop off) originally. They said they could give us a sedan (defeats the purpose of his request) for $105 and I said no. He settled on $199 (plus tax and tip) for a limo for the short trip. So he'll have a limo and I won't as I wasn't planning on it anyway and our house is 10 minutes from the venue. He'll be getting ready at his parents house.

We will be driven by the BM to our dinner reception and I want to decorate our SUV, I like that much better than a limo ride.

Thank you so much for this post! I was thinking the same thing. It just didn't make sense to us to pay tons of money for hours of service when we only need a drop off at the reception. We were going to drive ourselves also, but (silly me), I hadn't thought about decorating the vehicles. Yep...that'll work Smiley smile

Our transport budget went to guest shuttles. We are having the ceremony and reception at a venue where we will be staying on site, so not a must for us.

Find an SUV or other roomy vehicle and see if maybe your dad will drive you =). Could be nice to have some quality time.

I was in a wedding where the bride rented a trolly for transportation. It was only $150 for the day, I believe.

I discovered that some limo companies actually have passenger vans that might be less. like $75 an hour

Try a passenger van or look for a party bus. We are renting a party bus for $350 for four hours. Still sort of pricey but its better than paying $1000 for a limo.

We got a trolley and we negotiated on the price so it was around the same as a shuttle bus for guests. And we're making it do double duty as a shuttle bus for guests. Smiley smile So that's how we justified going a little fancier. Anytime something does double duty it's half price in my book!

I do think if you're going anywhere as a group before the ceremony it's really nice to all be together, not that it has to be fancy. A passenger van will do, as long as you can get in/out of it in your dress. I was in a wedding 2 yrs ago where we went to a busy city park for photos before the ceremony. Thank god we had the limo - there was no parking anywhere. It would have been a complete cluster, people would have been driving around getting lost and god knows what.

Definitely not a must! It is nice but there are more important things to pay for than fancy cars!
