Wedding Superstitions - Wearing a Veil?

Lynnie, on April 17, 2018 at 11:05 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 32

How much do you buy into this wedding superstition ?

This is one of the oldest wedding superstitions that dates back to ancient Greek and Roman traditions. The bride wore a veil to protect herself from evil spirits trying to do her harm! Wearing the veil over the bride's face was a way to "hide" from these evil spirits, who allegedly can't curse the bride if they can't see her! I'm not sure how many people still know of or believe this superstition, but veils still remain popular (if only for the fashion).

Do you believe in this superstition? Are you or your fiancée wearing a veil over your face to ward off evil spirits?

I won't even have a veil. I was glad I chose no veil before my mom tried pushing her veil on me though. I wore one for my first marriage and it was my mom's veil. So she wanted me to wear the same one twice. I thought that would be really bad luck lol

I'm wearing a veil but not over my face. I think it completes the bridal look.

I am wearing a veil but not over my face. I feel weird about it as to me the veil over the face symbolizes purity and we have been together 7 years

Nope. Don't buy into this one at all, and I will not be wearing a veil. We are doing a dark masquerade theme, so I will be wearing a mask instead!

I'm wearing a veil for the ceremony and pictures but not because of superstition, and it won't be covering my face.

I don't believe this superstition either, but I wore a veil because I wanted one. I didn't cover my face-that would have been extra for me.

I don’t believe this one, so I’m skipping the veil entirely

I do not believe in any superstition. Do what feels right. I am wearing a veil and over my face. This is my second wedding I did not wear one in the first wedding. A few people who are strictly Catholic told me that I should not wear it over my face because I'm not a virgin and we live together but I don't care I'm doing it anyways at the end of the day it's what I want not what everybody else says. Good luck xo

This is the only thing I thought might be bad luck! I always wanted to wear my mom’s veil that my aunt also wore. Both those marriages ended in divorce so I opted for no veil!

I'm not wearing a veil. A veil wouldn't have completed the look for the dress I chose. There is a lot of detail and I put a veil ok when I finally said yes to the dress and thought that the dress was better on it's own. I did buy a head piece though that compliments the dress.

Not for superstitious reasons but yes I am wearing a veil. I always wanted to wear a veil. I had a moment when I got my dress if I should or not because I wasn't sure if it will be a little much.

No veil for me. I thought of getting one that fit the theme of my wedding, but decided not to spend the money. For someone who can be kind of superstitious, this is one that doesn't bother me.

No veil here. I've always wanted to wear a tiara, and so has FW, so we're going that way!
