Wedding package cost...what do you think?

Megan&Jess, on July 14, 2016 at 5:56 PM Posted in Planning 0 47

Hey everyone! My fiance and I just got done visiting our first venue, and we absolutely fell in love. It was our favorite out of our "go and visit" list, and we're strongly considering booking it. It's absolutely gorgeous. The wedding pacakage includes all of the food, an open bar the entire reception, a champagne toast, linens, all of the dishware, accomodations for my fiance and I the night of our wedding, the wedding cake, and our ceremony. There are also two suites for my fiance and I to get ready for 2 hours before the ceremony with hors d'oeuvres and drinks. The reception will be 4 hours, and there is also a shuttle to take people over to their other hotel. The total cost comes out to be about $10,000. Do you guys think that is a fair and reasonable price for what it includes? My fiance and I want to be sure that we're taking a good deal. Since many of you have looked at many venues and booked your own, I thought you all would be the perfect people to ask! Thanks

I received a similar price for everything you listed for 120 people. Depends on how many people, where you are located, top shelf booze or not, buffet or plated, etc.

So the only things you need is decorations, officiant, Dj (or is that included?)? Depending on the food and Alcohol choices it sounds pretty good.

Make sure to read all review including about the cake and hotel accommodations. Honestly 10,000 sound to good to be true...

    Edit: and photographer!

Wow. My venue, which includes open bar and food plus our ceremony, is costing us almost double that once you add on tax, service charge, and gratuity. Granted, I'm in CT, where shit is just ridiculously expensive all the time, but that seems like a steal.

For 100 guests, that is an amazing deal! As long as it is in your budget and you like the venue space, I would go for it!

That's a great deal but make sure to clarify if there are additional taxes on that. Some places charge 20% gratuity plus sales tax.

The food includes a salad course to start for everybody, 3 different entree choices, the cake and if we book by the end of the month we get a mostly covered enhancement, which we would choose to be an ice cream bar. And yes, all we need is the decorations, officiant, photographer, videographer, and DJ! The food choices look great and the alcohol included in the open bar is beer, wine, gin, rum, tequila, vodka, and whiskey. This would all cost $22,000 if it was an evening reception, but we are doing the Saturday afternoon reception which really helps with the cost. Thank you all so much for your input!!

    Hmmmm. Hmmmmmmmm.

On the surface it sounds like a good deal but....I think you should price out those items separate from the venue. That sounds amazing but when I really look at it, I'm not convinced.

Are you limited on the foods and linens? Is this a plain cake with no options, or is it a gourmet wedding cake?

It's 10k because they're making money on it, so I suspect there are a lot of limited options for you. That's not a bad thing by any means---we seriously considered doing a venue package for a flat price but we couldn't choose our cake flavors and had like three designs to pick from, only a few food choices, limited bar that we didn't like, etc.

Price these items out individually and read the fine print.

ETA: I'm seriously not trying to be negative here, that might be an AMAZING DEAL. But, it's best to be really skeptical before you book to make sure you're not stuck with subpar things. You know they're making money out of the deal so the question is, how? Do they have specific vendors you have to use for your other things? I've seen that often, where you have to hire their recommended list of photog/DJ, etc.

They have their included linens which are ivory, but I can bring any linens I want but that is the only option for the linens, which is what we would have chosen anyway. There are tons of food options including vegetarian, food for kids and vendor meals. For the cake we can decide on the flavor, filling and icing, and they also have designs and enhancements they can add. There are definitely limited options on the cake, but it's good that there are enhancements available if we are able to spend more. Thank you for playing devils advocate and giving me something to think about!! I will definitely price them out separately and see how it all adds up Smiley smile
