Wedding Mistakes - Just for Fun!

JanuaryWedding, on August 22, 2014 at 3:06 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 30

So I was watching Friends and came across the where Ross says Rachel's name instead of Emily's at their wedding. It also reminded me of a Bridezilla's episode that I saw where the officiant kept pronouncing the brides name wrong.

Kinda funny! Yet horrifying at the same time. Any other wedding mistakes you guys have seen?

My brother got married last weekend, and although not a huge error there was one moment that was quite funny.

His wife's name has always been frequently mis-pronounced, so they were sure this was going to happen. I think the registrar was so focussed on getting hers right that they got my brother's much simpler name wrong! He will now be known as the mis-pronounced version forever more….

@JanuaryWedding it makes me laugh! They are both so cute together. We met with our priest, (well he left the church, he is an independent priest), this past Sunday and he was talking about the weddings he recently did where something inevitably happened - He told us he did a wedding last week in an area of Boston where the duck boats filled with tourists sailed by them while the couple were taking their vows. Well, apparently the duck boat captain every once in a while has the passengers quack like a duck. All they could hear was quacking while exchanging their vows! Then he told us another story of a wedding he did where the couple was getting married on the shore and a boat came by and the driver of the boat road by them screaming "DON'T DO IT" "GET OUT NOW WHILE YOU CAN!" Oh my imagine?

My mom still laughs at this mistake she made at my parent's wedding, they tell the story all the time and its cute. When my mom was saying her vows instead of saying I, Elaine take you Wayne...she said I, Wayne take you Elaine...and then she couldn't stop laughing to say them correctly.

At our wedding the DJ said my in laws last name wrong when they were being introduced at the reception. My FIL's first name is Kevin and the last name that the DJ used was the name of an old mayor or something who was also Kevin. It was awkward at first but now we just laugh about it.

At our wedding, my husband's dad said a prayer before we had dinner and he started to say how happy he was for Jason and Abby (his older brother & wife)'s names! It was a funny moment, he realized it and everyone giggled a little. Nothing major!

I wanted our DJ to announce each member of the wedding party, and i gave him a list of who's who and how their name is pronounced, and yet he still pronounced EVERY SINGLE NAME WRONG. And he didnt state that it was introductions, so as he said their names, the members were all walking to the front and looking at me like, WTF?

    1. During my Aunts wedding the Best Man giving the speech referred to her by her Husbands ex wife's name. Awkward!

    2. Wedding I went to two weeks ago was all officiated and readers that were friends and family so it was super relaxed and focused on community. As a reader was standing ready to speak one of the brides said ohh your part isn't yet...so the guy went to sit down...and then the bride looked at the program and said...oh crap I am wrong...it is the right time for you to speak. Everyone laughed a lot...so even some mistakes just seem very human and amusing!

Not a mistake, perse - my distant cousin got married in Vermont at the same time as a big biker rally. Right at the moment when she started her vows, some massive amount of motorcycles goes by during their ride/parade portion. My classy family was biting our tongue so hard not to laugh at the absurdity of it all while we waited for the rumble to die down. Let's just say it took a while.

At my friend's wedding, she had this great plan to have her cousin sing Ave Maria while she gave flowers to a statute of Mary. The priest totally forgot. I felt so bad, her cousin has such a beautiful voice.

But don't worry, after the ceremony we ran over there and gave flowers to Mary. Such a good Catholic girl.

My aunt got married six years ago, and my then-three-year-old cousin was asked to be the ring bearer. He was super excited - until he saw all the people who were going to be watching him! He threw a tantrum, refused to walk, and my 13-year old cousin was quickly asked to walk the rings down instead.

Someone told him to walk slowly and take his time, which he took literally - after about thirty seconds he wasn't even halfway down the aisle and the officiant finally had to ask him to pick up the pace!

Meanwhile, my Dad took my little cousin away to sit down and when he saw his older cousin doing his job, HE LOST IT - tantrum #2 because now he wanted to do it. Luckily he calmed down for the ceremony, and everything else went well. We laugh about it now!

Not a hilarious story, but my officiant said he just did a wedding and the people wrote their ceremony with the last line "You may not kiss the bride"...He says he knew better but accidentally said it anyway lol

My cousin had an outdoor wedding and her 3-4 year old son was the ringbearer. he got bored about 5 minutes into the ceremony - walked over to his great-grandmother and took her just-in-case umbrella, opened it up (with the help of one of my uncles) - and started swinging it around his head at the front of the ceremony space. It was hystericalSmiley smile Then he refused to give up the umbrella or recess down the aisleSmiley smile

My matron of honor planned her wedding in a rush and completely forgot til the day before her wedding that she had forgotten a florist! She had to buy all her flowers the day before the wedding. She also told me that she didn't realize until after the ceremony she had lost an earring, so she had to scrap photos from the photographer that you could tell! Lol all her pics from the ceremony are profile only.

At my wedding, when my best friend was giving her speech she called me Michelle instead of Amanda. I wasn't offended though, Michelle is another good friend of ours and was the MOH for my best friend's wedding a month earlier. I could tell my friend was nervous giving that speech so it was a simple mistake for her to mix up the names.

At my SIL's wedding, the officiant kept mentioning how they were getting married in the year 2012.

    Note: It was 2011.

At my cousins wedding years ago, he dropped the ring as he was putting it on the bride's finger. As he bent over to pick it up, he whispered "shit". I guess he forgot that the priest had a microphone clipped to him, and everyone in the church heard him loud and clear...lol
