Wedding invitations?? Match your theme or not?

Kelly, on February 14, 2013 at 9:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

I am getting married in Florida, in February next year at a Riverfront restaurant. We are water people... boating, fishing, sailing... Was going to do Horizone Blue dresses with white, blue and green paper lanterns and maybe use seashells and starfish in my centerpieces. My question is, how much do the invitations need to match? Found some cute navy blue background invitations with cute little fish kissing on them. It's not the same color blue, and it will probably be the only time that fish are used. Help!!!

I just chose the design for my invites and opted to go with something that reflects our personality and our wedding style. We don't really have a wedding theme per se. I think the invite should be the introduction to your wedding day so I think it would be really cute to have invites such as you describe or at the very least include at least one color that will be featured in your wedding.

My theme is Romance, Roses and a touch of Bling and these are my invites (I will be adding a ribbon and or a touch of bling to the cover. But I don't know that your invites have to necessarily reflect your theme, I just wanted mine to.

Invitations set the tone for your wedding, and sort of give guests a heads up (formal / casual) etc.

I dont think colors have to be exact (people on general are just not that detail oriented).

Finding the right theme for wedding day is as difficult as selecting the perfect dress for wedding. Having Fairy Tale Nuptials theme is good to go. It gives the feeling of Princess . Go for a full-skirted wedding gown, top-tier plated dinners with a giant chocolate fondue fountain and a ceiling-high cake.

Contrary to popular belief, your invitations do not have to match! If you love these invitiations, then by all means use them!

We are just doing a very simple invite using colors that are in the same family as the colors of the wedding.

My invites correlates with my theme. Not too matchy-matchy (excuse the grammar) Lol.

We didn't have a theme, but the invitations were peach (matched one of our colors). Oh, and our TY notes matched the invitations.

At which of the restaurants are you getting married, Kelly? There are several nice ones along there.

Thanks for a the advise!! The restaurant is called Pier 22. We absolutely love it! I may change the colors or the dresses to be closer to the color on the invitations. Sounds like most people try to match it as much as possible.

My invitations match in color only >.<

They are alot more formal than the wedding will be, so im going to specify it will be a *casual* outdoors ceremony with a *casual* buffet lunch reception.

They were just so pretty and shimmery and matched our colors perfectly, i had to have them haha

I think as long as they match the formality of your wedding, you're good. I do think people see the invitation as a cue of how to dress and what to expect on the schmancy-scale. Smiley smile

We used our wedding colors in our STDs and invitations but you don't have to. We just happened to design our invitations ourselves, and we used those colors b/c we like them. Smiley smile
