Wedding dress to cover the chest

KCmarryingSpook, on May 17, 2016 at 9:39 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 31

Good morning all! I sadly realized over the weekend how noticeable my scars are on my chest. While working this weekend (wearing a tank top) many people stared or even commented on my scars. *I have MS and have had three ports surgically placed for monthly infusions. I now know that I don't want this for my wedding day and feel like I want to be covered up. Have any of you lovely ladies purchased dresses that cover your chest and have pics you are willing up share?

I don't have a dress, but I have seen beautiful dresses where alterations added a lace section to cover the chest area. You can certainly find something you love and make it work.

I actually purchased a dress that has an illusion neckline, it covers the chest completely. Stella York has tons of dresses with illusion coverings, whether it be on the back or chest. Check out these dresses. You can always bring inspiration pics when you go shopping too. I'm giving you a bunch because I'm not sure your style :-) :

**I'm sorry about your MS, my mom has it too. Its not an easy thing to deal with I'm sure.

I don't have one either but if you search for "city hall wedding dress" or "60's dress" you might find a bunch. Granted these are "short" dresses. You could also splurge out on really reeeeally nice sweater/top with a separate skirt. (I have a large chest and am trying to find dresses that cover it so it's not the center of attention..)

ETA: Check out Delphine Manivet. She makes long and short dresses that cover the chest area. Super chic.

I don't think you should have to cover your scars up, but if it makes you feel better there are plenty of dresses with higher neck lines. I have scars under my bust from chest surgery which are only visible in a bikini really. I just tell people some cool story about how a fought off a bear or a shark if they ask haha. My dress has an illusion top. I don't have my dress yet, but here's a picture on the model. It's a very thin layer of material. You can barely tell it's there, but maybe it would give you that boost of confidence about your scars that you need.

People must truly be rude and insensitive to stare or make comments.

If you want to cover your chest, there are quite a few illusion neckline/higher neckline options out there. My dress is Athena by David Tutera.. Pic below Smiley smile

    Here is mine....I loved it!

BTW...that is really shitty of people to comment on your scars. I like scars, they build character. I totally understand if you want to cover them up, but wanted to tell you that you don't HAVE to! Smiley smile

I'm sorry people made comments about your scars, that's so rude. If you feel the need to cover up an idea is to wear a bolero. I'll attach a pic of my wedding dress. The top lace part I bought separately from the dress and the seamstress attached it in the front. Of course you can buy an illusion neckline or higher neckline dress, this would just give you more options because you can get any neckline in pretty much any dress! Mine doesn't cover the chest, but lots of boleros do, you can just search etsy or the web for "bridal bolero" there's tons of options!

I'm not sure what your personal style is, but Allure has an entire line of "modest" dresses, most of which cover up to the collar bones. I've attached the link below. I'd like to echo PP in saying that you wear whatever makes you comfortable and happy; shame on anyone for making you feel self conscious about your scars! They're definitely badges of honor.

EAT: Oops! Forgot to add the link! :-)

    Did someone say scars?!?!

Don't feel bad honey - I have over 26 keloids on my body. Someone once said to me: no one pays attention to them except you - that helped me through the years. I DO understand where you're coming from and I get stares all the time. I usually say something smart like, "want a closer look?" LOL.

I am wearing a long sleeve dress to cover the scars on my shoulders but my dress will not cover the keloid on the center of my chest or the ones on my back. I also have keloids on both sides of my jaw (one side of my face will not be covered by my hair). You are STILL beautiful! If it helps you I can post a picture but I didn't want to come here and just post a selfie. You can sort of see the one on my chest in my profile pic.

This dress was stunning. Had a very elegant high beatuea (sp) neckline.

This was my dress (on the model, obviously not me :-) ) It had a high neck and was incredibly soft and comfortable. It was an Augusta Jones- a lot of those dresses have higher necks, and a lot of lace.

My dress had an illusion neckline. That might not be the coverage you're looking for, but I've seen some beautiful high-neck lace bodices.

This is probably the most close-up picture I have of mine. It was a pretty sheer illusion.

Your scars are beautiful marks of valor and survival. Be proud of them. That said, eveyone's comfort level is different. Maggie Sottero has some beautiful illusion necks., and I love this Augusta Jones called Tammy.

I added a jacket to mine that buttoned up the back. I'm not sure if it would be enough coverage for what you're looking for but a lot of designers are making "toppers" now that can be added to different dresses in their collections. I know BHLDN has a pretty wide selection on their website.

Why don't you try Cat Von Dee's tattoo cover up and see how that does on covering the scars? Depending on the placement of your scars, you could cover them up with chunky jewelry. Good luck to you. You deserve to look and feel gorgeous on your wedding day. Shame on anyone who comments on your scars.
