Wedding dress scraps from fitting

Marian, on August 1, 2019 at 11:45 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 15
I had my first fitting yesterday and it was very easy and comforting with alterationist. After my fitting, they asked if I wanted to keep the scraps to make something. As I was driving home, I was thinking of what to make out of them.
I was thinking with my bouquets , which will be single flower, I would wrap a piece of my dress around them. I want something special for my sister and especially for my soon to be step daughters (who are 23 and 22).
My soon to be MIL has suggested making a wristband out of them with a flower. Any suggestions?

Maybe you could do something like this for them to use as their "something old" at their own weddings?

I think that's a good idea to use for your bouquet wraps

I plan to make a pendant (or a couple) out of a piece of mine, something like in the picture. I also thought the Christmas ornament was a super cute idea, depending on how much fabric you have.

That's not a bad idea. My oldest is already married, but if she plans to renew her vows it be great. And for her sister when she does marry that be great. Thank you.

Gorgeous. My scraps are pretty plain, it's from the bottom of the dress. But I was thinking if I made a flower out of them and place them in a pendant that would be great.

I also have a bag of scraps from my first fitting! Unfortunately none of it is the lace part, it's all pretty plain. I might try to use it to decorate some wedding stuff like the card box or something. If not i'll probably just cut out some swatches as keepsakes.

I can't remember where I saw it but someone made a shadow box after the wedding that had things like the invitation, dried bouquet flowers, etc but also included lace from her wedding dress. It was very lovely!

This is a great idea. I know I will have scraps from the alterations. Giving me ideas. . .I love Christmas ornaments. I've seen making an ornament from your wedding invitation, but now making one from dress scraps. Not much of a DIY'er but this I might be able to do.

I know my fiance(he is 42 and I'm 37) would want me to make something for his daughters to keep as they had lost their mother about 5yrs ago. I'm thinking of maybe doing both, wrapping the bouquet with a piece of my dress and if any is left over, make a pendant with a flower made from piece of my dress as they can have a keepsake from me.

Depending on how big the scraps are and what fabric, could you create a keepsake like a small pillow? Or maybe make small purses for your stepdaughters?

The scraps aren't that big and it's chiffon. I would either have enough to wrap about the single flower bouqets for all 4. My wedding dress is 'informal' from how the alterationist called it because it's not the big taffeta dress.

Maybe save a couple pieces and if his daughters get married and would like to sew a small piece inside their dress for sentimental reasons, they can.
