Wedding dress regrets

Tiffany, on April 27, 2011 at 3:56 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

I bought my dress not long after getting engaged, now my wedding is about 4 months away and I'm wishing that I got a different type of dress.

It is a mermaid style dress (link below), but now I'm thinking that there is only one time in my life that I will be able to wear the big wedding dress (not too big, like A-line) and now I'm having regrets and second thoughts. I still like the dress, just wish I got the once in a lifetime wedding dress.

Has anyone else had dress regrets?

Wow I actually love that dress. The detail along the neckline is so romantic. I actually got a ballgown initially and changed my mind to an A-line dress so I toned my choice down. Smiley smile Don't worry - that dress is gorgeous and very "once in a lifetime".

Well, that certainly seems bridal to me! that's a gorgeous dress! How long has it been since you had it on? Maybe you just need to see it on yourself again.

I can say I have seen this dress in person (its the dress that FH's friend wore at the wedding we went to a few weekends ago) and its a GORGEOUS dress. Personally I have an a line dress now, and I wish I would've atleast tried on a mermaid style but didn't.

My first dress was a ball gown and I changed it to trumpet! I wanted it to look classy and timeless and I didn't feel myself in a ball gown (not my personality). Your dress is gorgeous, try it on again and see if you still love it. If you don't like it you still have time to change it.

I agree...that dress is gorgeous. I love the kneck line. I don't even think I saw that one on DB's website.

I would also advise trying it on again. You might get that spark.

You know, it's funny when girls come on here that just got engaged and are having late 2012 weddings, and they run out and buy their dresses, I always think, why? New styles will be out soon. I told my daughter, we are not running right out because she is the type that won't stop window shopping and will perseverate.

I am having major second thoughts on my dress! I like it, but I was talked out of one that I absolutely LOVED! And they no longer have the one I loved... So I'm on the hunt for a good tailor to alter it and make it more me! I have found some taffeta and chiffon in a pretty lavender I want to be inserted in the back going down the train. I can see it in my head and hope it works out like I plan! Below are pics of the beading on the front and one of the train. The beading kind of flows down the seams.

Thank you girls, for being so reassuring. I think everyone is right, as soon as I put the dress on again, I will love it again. It's been about 6 months since I last had it on. It's hard to actually do that though, FH and I live together and he doesn't want to see it, nor do I want him to see it. We also have dogs and I don't want it to get full of dog hair..lol. I guess I'll just have to wait the 2 months or so till alteration time.

@ Chelsea.... I'm so sorry to hear that you have had to postpone your wedding. Honestly I would be really disappointed also. At the same time, if it meant being able to have the wedding I really wanted, I think I would have made the same decision. I really think that when the day finally comes, you will be so happy to have everything that you wanted, that it would have been worth the wait.

I have been having the same thoughts. I was torn between two dresees. And choose a strapless ballgown with the bunched looking pick up skirt (like the one showing on Brides Maids movie~I didn't even know this at the time I purchased the dress). The strapless as well, a a bit fancier with some beading and a train. I choose the ballgown mainly since we are getting married at a reception venue and I felt I might get annoyed with the train. BUT I keep thinking about it!! LOL Too late now, Davids Bridal doesn't allow exchanges!! If I see it on one of their $99 specials, I may just have to get it!!!

I have to say, i cringed a bit when you said mermaid (just not my style of dress)... but that is truly beautiful! gorrrrr-JUSS. to be honest, i wouldn't necessarily call that a mermaid style (not that it really matters). i have to say i have never for one second had dress regret... i tried on six beautiful dresses - any of which i could have purchased... but i felt like there was something missing... when i put on #7 - everything was just absolutely right... lost my breath, teared up, the whole deal.

I had second thoughts for about 8 months after buying my dress as you can see it is not very bridal at all! For months I would go into my co-workers offices and talk about buying another dress for the ceremony b/c I was thinking exactly what you are! But when I went in for a fitting back in November and again in April I fell in love all over again. My dress is me! and your dress is You and you are going to look beautiful in it!

I think that dress is gorgeous. My dress is a similar shape and although you're right about not really getting another chance to wear a ballgown...when would you realistically ever wear a mermaid gown? It depends on your lifestyle but I'm pretty certain I won't be coming across many opportunities to wear either style of gown again.

Ps. I feel you on the dog situation, I've been terrified to take my dress out too

I'm having the same regrets. I'm not loosing the weight as fast as I like. I know that I have a little less than a year, but I still need to loose the armpit flab and a little in the thighs as you can see in the dress. However, I LOVE the dress itself...*sigh* I feel ya

I have never had regrets, but at times I have forgotten what my dress looks like. My dress is in storage at the bridal salon. I haven't tried it on since January and my first fitting isn't until June. The last time that I tried it on, I was in love all over again. I just think you need a reminder of how amazing you look in your dress. Once you see the image, you'll fall back in love again.

I bought my dress at a consignment shop. I love it, but I always wanted the "Grace Kelly" Gown and even have the pattern for it. Now that I've seen Princess Katherine's gown, I want the dress I want all over again. Also, I didn't like the gown that fit big, so I got a gown that fit small and I can't get the zipper all the way up! I am dieting, but it isn't easy. I keep looking for a new gown, but can't find anything I can afford. I did find Kate's dress online for $400 today though!

I get worried sometimes, and then I just look at how i looked in it, and remember how I felt in it. I was going for more traditional but when i found my dress, it wasnt too traditional. It has tons of different details.

@ Ms L....Now that you have pointed that out and I think of it that way, I think you are right. I will never wear a dress like that again for any reason. I think I feel a little better, thanks girls! I definitely think it will help to see it on again, still have about 2 1/2 months till fitting though.

@ Future Mrs. Cooper.... I think your dress looks great! I wouldn't stress too much, it's always that last 5 pounds that never goes away (I'm trying too). If you still feel uncomfortable, I'm sure they can alter the dress in a way you would be happier with.
