This is based on your own personal finances and desires. I've seen dresses as cheap as $100 and as expensive as $20,000. In my area (Northern CA), the average is about $2,000-$3,000, but with some very nice dresses falling in the $1,500 range.

That's really different for everyone since the price of dresses is such a big range.

$2000 would be too much for me and someone's starting point. It's all about you and your budget

It's really about your budget. Averages vary differently in each state. I've budgeted 3k for mine, and no more.

My FSIL spent $1600 & my sister spent $1600 as well. The average in my area is anywhere from 1-4K. Some bridal salons over here start dresses at 2.5k as their lowest. It really depends.

Thanks everyone for the feed back. I wasn't sure what's a normal price range.

I live in Alabama, so it shouldn't be too expensive.

You can find as inexpensive or expensive wedding dress you want in any part of the country. Have a budget in mind before looking or you may have to leave disappointed.

My dress was $600 (marked down from 900)and $100 for alterations. I had not one, but 2 SIL who went to Goodwill and found their beautiful dresses for under $100! I'm not so brave. I have 2 sisters whose s dresses were closer to ****. Everyone has a different budget.

It all depends on your budget. Don't forget about alterations, taxes, etc my dress was 1,700 but with everything it came out to 2,230.. I was surprised at all of the added costs. Make sure you ask lots of questions when doing alterations.

Whatever you are comfortable spending. It is also important to think about alterations when setting a budget, especially because something as simple as hemming a dress adds to your cost (in my area this averages about $300 just for a hem at bridal shops).

Depends on your budget. For me, it was no more than $1K. For another bride, it could be no more than $3k

It might help you to check out the knots budget tool. You input your overall budget and it gives you an amount of what items should cost. Obviously you can spend more or less as you please. It was a really helpful starting point for me. On their app it's under the organizer tab, and the selection is on the right side.

I live in Alabama too! Smiley smile I feel like a good rule of thumb is that if you are stressed about how much the dress costs, you are probably shopping outside of your price range. I always heard the advice that you should not even try on a dress outside of your price range. I can speak from personal experience on that one too! With so many different shops, designers, and dresses, just know that their is a dress out there that will be perfect for you and within your budget. It may take time to find it, but you will! Smiley smile

This totally depends on your budget and priorities.

My max for the dress itself was $700. Low, I know. But I'd rather spend money on food, booze, and music. A dress was low on my priority list. Obviously I want to look nice, but there was literally nothing that would get me to justify more than $700 on a dress.

My budget didn't include accessories or alterations. It was strictly for the dress purchase. I ended up finding one for $450 at Davids, and it will need very little in the way of alterations. I love it and I'm happy knowing I spent a very reasonable amount.

Dress prices don't really vary much depending where you live. Designers set the price for the gown, usually within a range. It's going to all be about your budget.

I searched n found something like this to show what percentage each thing 'should' cost. Our Venue, food n drinks did come it right around 50%; but nothing else matched what was listed (rings were more than 2%; but spent way less on flowers, etc).

Brides in Alabama, if you live close enough to Jasper, I recommend checking out Diane's Formal Affair. Lots of gowns in many different styles and price points. All the ladies there were so nice. I ended up getting my dress there, a dress that wasn't available in Atlanta, where I live.

My brother is getting married this upcoming spring and his soon to be wife had a previous marriage where she spend 10k on her first dress and didnt even blink. But for this wedding her budget is under 2k. It's all up to your budget situation. For me I wanted to keep in under 1.5k. so its all up to your budget Smiley smile
