Wedding Dress arriving late!

Geneline, on March 29, 2016 at 5:08 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 44

My wedding is October 1, 2016. Last night, I took a few people to go wedding dress shopping for the 2nd time at David's Bridal. I had no high hopes for finding a dress at David's Bridal since I never heard any good reviews about it. Color me surprised, when the last dress I tried on was perfect. I had my "wedding dress moment" and cried. So, I said yes to the dress. Upon ordering it & paying for it (final sale), I realized that my consultant did not order my dress in petite. (I'm 4'11, I NEED a petite). So, I called this morning to change my order for a Petite size, but now my dress won't be arriving till August 09 (at the latest!). That gives me less than 2 months with the dress without any alterations. David's Bridal assured me that though it's cutting it close, I would be able to have a fitting and alterations the week my dress comes in and have it before my wedding. I NEED PEACE OF MIND. Can someone give me any advice or words of encouragement that I'll have a wedding dress?!

Not sure about their bridal, but I've ordered bridesmaid dresses several times and the timeline they gave was much longer than it actually took to arrive. Hopefully this is the case here!

My dress still hasn't arrived if that makes you feel any better.

Also see if you can find a local seamstress. They generally work faster and have more reasonable pricing than David's Bridal. If DB does something to your dress they won't necessarily fix or replace it.

I got mine about 40 days prior to the wedding and still had 4 fittings. You'll be fine.

I got my dress from there and it ended up coming in the same month I ordered it. They told me it would arrive in three months. Just had my fitting there and they had it done in three weeks without a rush. So I believe even if the dress didn't come till August u have more than enough time for the fitting.

My dress shop told me to not even go in until 2 months before the wedding to start alterations. You should be fine it arrives by August.

If it does come in by then, you'll be fine. My dress just hung in the closet until I finally got my butt in gear and took it to alterations right around the eight-week mark. I had a new back put in, a hem, and a bustle added, and everything was finished in two weeks.

That's plenty of time don't stress! Let them though that due to their mistake of not ordering a petite you need alterations expedited at no cost to you

I ordered my dress from DB and they told me that it would take 3 months to come in. Imagine my surprise when I received an email 3 weeks later saying that everything I had ordered (dress, veil, bra corset thing, and petticoat slip) had arrived. I've heard this from several people. I think that they give you the worst case scenario so they don't disappoint people. They sent me home with my dress and made me an alterations appointment for 3 months out. Hopefully it comes in much quicker than they said.

You should be fine. BTW, two of my BMs dresses won't be in until late May, early June. It's not my gown, but I feel for you. David's told me to just make the alterations appointment for the first week in June. The dresses will either be here, or they will rearrange to get us in when they do arrive. I would make the appointment for the week that they say the dress will be in and talk to the manager at Davids to confirm your strategy so they can be flexible in a reschedule if needed. Don't fret, you have time.

I agree its plenty of time!! Also, research for seamstresses in your area, because DB is horrible and overpriced for alterations. A local seamstress will probably tell you 1-2 months is all you need. Yelp reviews really helped me in finding a seamstress.

Plus the sooner the better, its less stress on you to not gain weight for so long...

I took my dress in a WEEK before my wedding, after telling my seamstress about my dress and that I just needed the bust taken in and a bustle put in....I asked if it would be better to come in December or a week before (was living out of state from wedding and dress at the time), she said a week before if you plan to lose weight... When I arrived to try on my dress, we discovered I actually didn't need any alterations in the first place and only needed the bustle. Wedding alterations cost $25 and done in 1 day!!! --if I needed the alterations she quoted me 3 days to have it done.

Hey All! Thank you so much for all your responses and advice!!! You all have honestly given me some peace and I'm finally able to relax! I've been reading so many check lists & advice online and it seems like everything should be done so far in advance. Hence, the freak out about my dress timeline. I guess I wanted that reassurance that my dress was in my closet and ready to go, but I think I'll be fine after reading you all's responses.

I'm hoping it's worst case scenario timeline and it comes in earlier than August!

For those of you who have ordered from David's Bridal (from their store), was there a way to track your order's progress?

Dresses sometimes come in earlier! My MOH's bridal dress (she is getting married three months before me) came in just 5 days after she ordered it! My bridesmaid dress came in almost 3 weeks earlier than projected. Don't lose hope yet!

Alterations shouldn't be done until 2 months prior anyway because of weight fluctuations. You're fine.

My bridesmaid dresses came in much faster than their estimates. My sister even needed to re order hers and it came in super fast. I wouldn't worry. Besides from August to October gives you plenty of time for alterations.

    Era: clarity

I just got my dress from DB last month...ordered it Friday night, it was there by Wednesday. No joke. I'm not saying your dress will come that fast but my dress was supposed to come in July. Don't panic!
